Being a Reserve..

Hello, I am wondering whether being a reserve, am I entitled to a rotational day off or at the discretion of the managment?
Hope you can give me some guidance on this topic..

It should rotate the same as the full timers otherwise you will never get a Saturday off.

Clearly it is at the discretion of the manager. Unless you are a floater or have some clout or influence over the way things work in your office.

Being a reserve/spare is the pits! You should still get saturdays off - 1 in 6, if you insist and moan a lot about it; but operational needs sometimes supersede your so-called rights/privilege. However, a long weekend might be more difficult.

Perhaps, being a reserve is different in different offices but a reserve can sometime cover days off, sickness. annual leave or just become a spare to do the clear up job.

I've been with royal mail for just over a year on 3 month fixed term contracts. I hardly ever got a Saturday off but then I joined the union and now get my Saturday off in every 6. I go see my rep when its due and he sorts it out. I dont moan about it though until its due. So say in the 5th week ill go see him and say.

how can you not get a day off?
surely if they asked you work every day.... by friday you wouldn't need to come in sat?
