20 hr contract yet doing about 35 hrs a week? advice please?

Hi all, ive been employed by the royal mail for 7 months now and have had my contract extended twice, my basic hours are 9-2, 4 days a week as I was originally employed as a bag carrier yet since I moved duties I have been doing full time hours, going in about 6am, sorting my board and then doing the walk. I feel that im working more and not getting paid for it. I have spoken with my DOM about starting at my start time and having the board prepared and ready for me to tie up when I sign in yet he has been quite rude about the whole situation saying that he hasn't got the staff to do it or that if he does it for me, other people will want it done. Does anyone have any advice for me? much appreciated

i am yes but this is not due to choice, i care for my mother and therefore i am required to be available from 13:30 onwards

My advice very simple, Work your paid hours only.
You are being taken advantage of big style.
If your manager needs you to work more hours YOU insist you are paid for them.

I really don't understand people! Why would anyone work 15 hours overtime for no pay? Grow a pair and tell him you want paying for the hours, get your rep involved, if you're not in the union, join tomorrow. In future, come in at your start time, do what needs doing and then tell them DOM you are finishing at 13:30 come hell or high water and ask him what he wants you to do! Soon get paid for your overtime.

This is bordering on intimidation. Send a copy of your transcript to the Chief Executive, Moya Greene and ask for her involvement in this matter. This is illegal and you must stand up for yourself. Also ask this manager to put in writing why he is asking you to work fifteen hours per week unpaid.

If your in the union speak to the rep. Tell him how long this has been going on and then the union rep and manager need to negiotiate to get you the hours you due. This is clearly a breach in RM terms and conditions. And blatant manager taking the piss.

Your mad and need Union help, contact your union rep even if your not in it, they should NOT stand by and let this happen.
You say your on a 20hr contract, first thing i would advise, is tot up the hours you have done this week and tmrw when you go in show him the overtime you've done
tell him you want paid for it and all the other hours owed and tell him you've contacted the Union about this.
If he point blank refuses then say i've done my hours for this week i'm going home. Go find the Rep and tell him all, if he knows his stuff he'll help cause in return you'll join us.

He can not do this it is illegal. Do not let this continue

Yes he should stand up for himself but if he's worried his contract won't get extended you can understand him not wanting to rock the boat , but we all know if u give rm a inch they will take a mile . Don't let them do it to u Sam , they're taking you for a fool and believe me your better standing up for what is right and losing your job then Being treated this badly . Again, let Moya know what has happened. If they threaten not to renew your contract, this is bullying and harassment. Tell him that you will be taking your case to the newspapers and naming names if there is any threat as a result of you not being paid fairly for your overtime, and that you will make a claim to the small claims court, as it is illegal not to pay for overtime. Turn the threat back against him.
