He can ask you in for an interview.
If you can't go, you don't go.
Has he referred you to ATOS? If not ask for a referral.

I'm not a doctor but I would guess that ligament damage would require total rest.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

As above - if it's too painfull to get into work you need to stay at home end of. Don't be talked into possibly doing more damage by walking into the office.

The first 7 callander days you self-certify and you only need a doctors note for absence over 7 days that is the accepted situation under UK law. So YOU decide in the 1st 7 days if you are fit for work or not, NOT your manager. If you say you are not fit that is the end of it, full stop. If you thought you were ok on monday but were wrong after trying to work then that is final. At 8 days a doctor decides in consultation with you where to go from there.

If you trip over on the way into work and make the injury far worse or break an arm then that would be an accident NOT at work and you could be dissmissed for non-attendance from that accident NOT at work. Don't take the risk.
