road traffic offence on duty?

Hi I have a question about commiting road traffic offences on duty.

Can you be diciplined under Royal Mail conduct code for going through a red light in a van or on your push bike say and getting a ticket or a fine in a magistrates court?

And secondly what if you are on your break at the time you run the redlight? Say you are taking 20mins to go get yourself a something to eat and run a redlight on a push bike but have no mail with you? Can they still conduct code you for committing an offence 'in your own time'?

They don't usualy conduct code drivers who get speeding tickets but these days who know , probably depends if you are F/T with long service.

I would imagine even if you are on a break with with no mail in your pouch, you are still wearing RM uniform and representing the company, but i would be surprised if you were taken down the conduct code for a road traffic breech such as this. Just take a look at the vehicles leaving the yard with tyres low on tread, dirty obstructed number plates that need cleaning. your manager would have to be a complete jobs worth or just have nothing better to do if he conducts you. I wouldn't worry about it though!!

The odd one at my place have had to pay parking fines cause they were lazy with the parking of their van,on a bus stop.

But what about when you're driving the van between home and work ?

We've been here before re:Vans being taken home at night,you are still in charge of a RM vehicle,it is and what you do in it your responsibility.
Going through a red light,whether you are on duty or not and you are in a RM van,you will get busted,such as speeding,parking and the like.
Red light,our fault.
Speeding,our fault.
Parking,some could be our fault,some could be wank wardens who don't know the rules.

So it looks like the answer is you should be ok but might not be depending on what side of bed your lino got out of. Typical RM crap. It hasn't happened to me but very nearly almost did so I was just worried. I got a big ticking off from a rozzer for going through on red but acted all innocent and apologetic but was wondering what would have happened if he had been in less of a rush to get away. We are under so much pressure with the p&l I hear loads of guys talking about rushing round its nuts and its a matter of time before someone gets in big trouble from the cops and I reckon they will get the sack for dangerous driving. Beware.
