How do you go about selecting a new rep? During the current dispute our rep has given us very little feedback, we have not had a re-vote for years and some collegues have left the union due to the lack of feedback from our rep.

A GROUP OF YOU, SAY, DEPENDING ON SIZE OF OFFICE, SHOULD WRITE A LETTER OF NO CONFIDENCE IN THE UNIT REP.
YOU SHOULD HAVE SIGNATURES OF A GOOD PROPORTION OF STAFF AND THEN SEND IT TO YOUR AREA REPS, THEY WILL INFORM YOUR REP AND GO FROM THERE.
YOU WILL THEN BE ABLE TO NOMINATE ANOTHER PERSON/S

They need 3 signatures for nomination including thier own by 31 December.
If only 1 candidate is nominated they are automatically elected.

It is very bureaucratic to throw out a rep during the term and would probably be more productive to wait until the election date(usually January).
However what the guys can do is to demand to have a meeting and to be able to debate any changes that are taking place or need to take place before He/She agrees them with management.
It will be very difficult for the rep to pull any tricks as long as enough people remain on the ball and watch what He is doing and hold him to account.
