DRIVING ALLOWANCE RESIGN LOOPHOLE!

HI been told by union man that I cant apply for a driving duty due to driving allowance has been protected so these duties arent up for seniority resign ,and he would contest me and other senior walking men if they apply but a driving postman can apply for my shift I dont believe this is true and fair. Feel the union man is trying to protect the drivers here so would like some thing in black and white stating this agreement! As I may lose my duty of 17yrs! Due to the resign so why cant I go for a driving duty? Which in some cases im 10yr more senior to some of the drivers, and they can keep there duties .To me seems very unfair so much for seniority rules!!! Please help me to try and get a fair resign here thanks !

i have had no notification on this and its not in the MTSF agreement

Driving duties are usually ring fenced because of the driving allowance.And has been for years.

If they are pay protected then they are ringfenced,but if they sign for a walking duty they lose their pay protection.I`m not to sure about grandfather rights though.

Are you saying that a member of 30 years service who is on a walking duty ( and gets no driving allowance ) would have to give way to a member with 20 years service ( and gets driving allowance ) in a re-sign for a driving duty ? eg. firms / rural / P&L / collections.

In 'some' offices who go for the ring fenced duties,yes. I was one who couldn't sign for a duty a few years ago at my place because of this.

Thats what I don't get about the union, why have one set of rules in one unit & another set of rules 10 miles down the road. It causes more problems than it solves. It also help RM devide & rule the membership, playing one against the other. A devided membership are less likely to stand up to RM breaking the agreements.

in our office the duties went up
those with driving allowance kept it regardless of pick
however to me,its yet another issue over some getting paid extra for the same job
