annual leave

Post by jeanie »

Is there anything is writing in a royal mail rule book that allows someone to carry 6 weeks leave over for a special holiday?? Is it called something? All sounds cryptic I know but just wondered if its allowed.

Best bet is to speak to your DOM, and get agreement to do it, get it in writing if he does agree to it, in case he leaves before you go!

carry over 6 weeks, you mean you have not taken any leave this year?
that in itself is illegal ,and wouldnt /shouldnt of happened.

i know the max carry over is 5 days(1 week)without special consent.

if you do not get it ,try a career break

I'm guessing they are enquiring about the future, I carried over 10 days to go to South Africa for the World Cup in 2010, DOM agreed, but we had a good DOM back then, good luck.

It's possible in exceptional circumstances to get extended annual leave as (unpaid)special leave to visit relatives in far flung reaches....not Wales. :nervous
Carrying over 6 weeks holiday is very unlikely to be authorised.

Annual Leave extension:
In exceptional circumstances, a maximum of 3 unpaid months may be allowed to visit family living overseas (in long haul locations). Note that this should not be offered on a regular basis, but only in exceptional circumstances.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

i have a member who is on job share, does week on / week off. He tends to just take the holidays given to him by the DOM, but his last few holidays he has been asked to sacrifice as they were short staffed and would he come in and work. He agreed, but now this close to the end of the year, he has over 10 days left, the DOM says there is no space for him to have any time off but he cant carry them over. This seems very unfair, as he only has so much excessive holidays left because he did his DOM a favour and works when asked. Any thoughts

DOM's full of s**t,and your member will now know better.
Curious, where does the manager think the 10 days are going to go.
Baring in mind his days have been cancelled to 'help the business out',you should get in there and get the guy some time off.

Carrying leave into another year

Annual leave should generally be taken in the year that it is due, and the business expects all employees to have at least four weeks away from work every year. However up to one week (or 5 odd days) may be carried over into the next leave year, and up to five days may be anticipated during the last month of the previous leave year. Transfer of leave in excess of these limits requires written permission from the line manager, except that leave that cannot be taken due to sick leave may be allowed in the following year. Where this is granted and would reduce the annual leave taken in a particular leave year to less than four weeks, the individual must also confirm in writing that they are willing to voluntarily forgo their statutory leave entitlement under the Working Time Regulations 1998.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
