Hi need some advice

There is a duty in or office that gets lapsed

My own duty which i dont always complete due to not having enough time so i leave about 30 mins work .I have been tested on my duty which is between 25-40 min too long depending on volume of mail and day of the week ie thur fri .

Was pulled into office today and told that as of next week my duty will be lapsted and i have to do the duty that was lapsed previously so that they dont have to pay out overtime to get the bit that i leave on my duty.

Surely they cant do this as im being penalised for doing my duty correctly the way i was tested on it

Was pulled into office today and tols as of next week im to be taken of my duty and made do the duty that was being lapsed and my duty will be lapsed from now on so that they dont have to pay out overtime to cover the mail that i leave on my duty.

Surely this isnt right as im doing my duty the way it was tested ie when im on my days off the pepole who cover it complete it but they are cutting across the gardens but when i was tested on it i went up and down every path

Has the union rep in your unit agreed for your duty to be lapsed?

No as usual the dom told me this when the union rep is on holiday he starts back on monday will see him then.

Just wondering if he can take me off my duty

If your duty is longer than the duty currently being lapsed, it will need more "lapsers" to cover it.
Where then is the saving?

I'm a rep and IMO the only dutys that can be lapsed if any are the dutys of those on leave so it does not effect duty holders, stand your ground and make sure your rep (if you are a member) is looking after your interest!

Technically they can but a decent DIM would ask you to come off your own duty and except what ever answer you give them.

Unfortunately by the sounds of it you have a very dimly lit DIM whos getting pressure from above and as usual we pay the price in some form.

So whats the reason for not completing just saying theres to much mail doesnt cut it in R/M anymore the union and this is what I tell the members in my office,the union need evidence to face the DIM on getting your duty sorted.

Are you up to speed on the prepping has your DIM done a standards test on you .For a three winged frame in my area single slots 12-15 a minute double slots slightly less think around the 7-10 mark.

Now if all is ok there then it must be the outdoor element anyway I think you get my drift get your rep onto it seek advice from your area rep before starting this new duty,but in my office this wouldnt happen due to the staff sticking together.

well when our lapsing started a couple of years ago now senior men where taken off their duties and made to float cos their walks were near the office.this ended up causing a lot of grief and pissed a lot of people of,needless to say the managers loved it.it eventually got sorted by having a resign.

Well technically speaking lapsing should not be done on overtime, if management and posties stuck to the agreement i.e only lapse when you have spare time in your duty we wouldn't be in such positions as this.
I don't understand any reps either agreeing to or not registering disagreement to these rotas for lapsing. It should be assessed on the day not on some rota, basically forcing individuals to work overtime when they do not wish to, then get bullied by management to not even book that overtime worked ...... Thankfully we fought off efforts to introduce rotas in our office, it is only done if you have time in your paid hours.......

It amazes me after all these years and in the beginning the CWU thinking lapsing was great that the members are still having these issues.

And to be honest not much help has ever come from the CWU hierachy over lapsing apart from a few weak worded LTBS and agreements.

Lapsing in any form should never have been agreed for one it cut jobs (no summer staffing) .It was never going to be an enabler for the summer periods allowing more folk off.

It seems to me that over the recent years the CWU have agreed job cuts and pay cuts ,and the membership have been foolish enough to accept this thinking nothing better could be achieved.

I remember the days when the CWU had balls can some one please tell me what has happened as im starting to wonder .
