Election ballots?

Our rep elections ended today and we had 2 for rep, 3 for sub-rep and 2 for H&S rep nominated. What happens now, is it a postal ballot or show of hands, how long does this kind of thing take and is the rep at the moment still in charge till its sorted? Thanks for any answers.

I presume the nominations have closed.
The ballot will probably be held at your place of work.
The rep stays until after the ballot.

AFAIK it should be a postal ballot. Perhaps a workplace ballot - but it can't and should not be a "Show of hands" - My preferred choice is always a work place ballot because you get more involvement that a postal ballot - however not sure that you can do this for elections, it has to be independently scrutinised in some way I believe.

The law on requires postal ballots for national postions and most unit rep ballots are conducted on a work place ballot normally carried out by either a branch official or by someone endorsed at the branch AGM.

Area reps who cover just one branch are normally conducted by workplace ballots. Area reps who cover more than one branch are normally conducted by postal ballots.

All divisional reps elections are conducted now by postal ballots but prior to 2000 it was conducted by a Branch ballot decided by the branch committee .

Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between a postal ballot and work placed ballot? Are they both sent to all members but one is sent off to be counted whilst the work placed one is counted at the office where ballot is for?

Postal ballot:
They send you a voting slip in the post with a SAE and you return it by post usually to an independent scrutineer.

Workplace ballot:
They give you a voting slip at work and you put it in a box in front of a Branch official and when everyone has voted - they count the votes.
