Counselling.
Can anyone give me a bit of info please?
When someone recieves counselling under the conduct code from a screw, should the screw hand over any paperwork or ask the person being counselled to sign something as proof?
Cheers!

Yes, the saga of the bike helmet drags on. The screw dealing with it says I was counselled last September by an acting screw. I have no recollection and the acting screw is a known liar. I would have thought if I had been counselled I would have a letter or something, but I haven't.Spartacus wrote:This about the bike helmet thing?
It's meant to be informal isn't it?
You should get the notes from the meeting or take your own.I'd take counselling every time as opposed to the conduct code.

IWW mate...
Any Code of Conduct case SHOULD have all the relivent paperwork and interview notes for both sides to see. So you can demand them and if as RM state you were interviewed by a acting screw then if the case stands You should have a copy of the meeting... Otherwise in my book it shouldnt be submitted as evidence.. As no proof is there... All this FACT FINDING shite , in my book is just that SHITE... If you are guilty then tell you what your guilty of and then as in a C of C you can ask for all documents.. Ive had much the same kind of rubbish in my case.... Well part of it... They Accuse.. Lay blame.. Never show you evidence.. Then find you guilty and give you a few years serious... Hoping you slip up on anything again and WHOLLOP.... They think they have you....
BASTARDS.. I wouldnt acknowledge the warning and keep on asking for ALL documents that adhere to urself... Put the ball back firmly in RM's court...
OUT
Good luck mate..... NEVER LET THE BASTARDS HAVE AN INCH...

Cheers lads! I've had two inteviews and both sets of notes had to be re-written because of the inaccuracies (selective memory) of the screw. In the last interview, the sub-rep, who is also the H&S rep was accused of threatening the screw because he said he would be passing the case on. The highly strung screw lost it, so the rep decided to call the meeting to a close. So, the rep wasn't allowed to give any info which might have been helpful. This is hardly a serious case, but I intend to cause the screw as much inconvenience as possible by ensuring complete accracy in his notes, then going to appeal because as we all know his mind is already made up (or was made up for him) on what he intends to do.

You wouldn't go into a meeting with management on your own, would you?
You wouldn't have a meeting with management without taking notes would you?
I'm pretty certain that the answer to both questions would be NO.
Ask to see the minutes of your fictitious meeting, ask to see where it's recorded on your personal record that such a meeting took place.
A manager shouting across the yard "OI where's yer 'elmet" is not counselling.
This is dragging out for a hell of a long time isn't it? These sort of things should be dealt with in a couple of days at most, I imagine the stress and pressure you're feeling must be pretty unbearable by now
Don't let it drag out too long, they're stringing you along and it's not on.

Exactly what I said to the rep. I wouldn't be so stupid as to set foot inside an office without a witness.Spartacus wrote:You wouldn't go into a meeting with management on your own, would you?

It's dragging out because the screw writes more fiction than the West Midlands Crime Squad and has to re-write it and because of annual leave. This Friday makes eight weeks, which even allowing for leave is a bit stupid, but these are the times in which we Royal Mail employees live. The strain is starting to tell if this episode doesn't reach a conclusion soon, I think I might take a turn for the worse and have a few days sick with the stress of it all, me being the quiet type and all.

Counselling should be give prior to any formal fact finding interview. It's a tool of correction. If a DIM does a formal interview then counselling shouldn't be an option. The outcome should be NO CHARGE TO ANSWER, if innocent. You shouldn't slide back down the scale to counselling and nothing should be on yourr record.

What I'm asking is if, had I been counselled, should I have some written proof in my possesion of that counselling taking place? It has taken them seven weeks to come up with the idea that I have been counselled and that, as well as having nothing in writing makes me suspicious. The only time any screw has mentioned me wearing a helmet is months ago when one told me not to forget my helmet as I was getting my bike from the rack. But that was a different manager.cruisey wrote:Counselling should be give prior to any formal fact finding interview. It's a tool of correction. I saw my file today which does contain a piece of paper signed by an acting screw last September saying he had counselled me. It has his signature, but not mine. I'll just wait until the appeal before asking anything else. Even more suspicious now!

Slightly off thread, but I hate that term 'counselling' in the Royal Mail context, and let management know this at every opportunity. They are not trained counsellors, and abide by no code of conduct from any of the four counselling bodies in this country.
I, however, do, for my sins, have a degree in Applied Psychology, and post graduate qualifications in counselling, and was afilliated to a professional body, at one stage, and studied for 5 years in doing so. So who's the daddy?
