London's tube drivers are set to see their wages rise 5% this year, more than double the national average, to hit £55,000pa over the next four years.
The RMT's general secretary, Bob Crow, said: "We saw major movement from LU and we now take this improved offer back to our local reps.
"In these days of austerity we have shown that fighting trade unionism is the best defence from attacks on jobs and living standards.
"I doubt you will find a better offer than this anywhere else in the public sector."

At the other end of the spectrum,read that council workers have their contracts terminated and given new ones with 4% lower wages or loose 400 jobs.Watch this space chaps !!
It is true my mates brother is a tube driver, there also getting a couple of hundred quid a week extra during the olympics just so they dont strike, thats what you get when you have a decent union
Am waiting on a text as a mate who now works in a ticket office was a tube driver,he had to move because of ill health.
From memory they were on £35K+ a while back,i very much doubt a run of the mill tube drive will be on as a basic wage £55k!
But we'll see when i get the text.
Also bare in mind during our 2007 strikes that the press and Leighton were saying that the average earnings of a postie at that time was £20K+

They reckon it could be worth around £10k over the next 4 years if RPI stays high.
That's where the £55k comes from.

To be fair Bob Crow had a "one off" weapon we could only dream off...the 2012 Olympics.
London needs the Olympics,the Olympics need the tube.
