Maternity Leave?

Hi - My baby is due on jan 6th - I have a weeks holiday booked for the week Dec 26th so am going to start my leave on Jan 2nd but was wondering............... I have a week booked off in February which I obviously wont use...... Would I be allowed to move this to the week 19th December? I know that we cant normally book time off around Xmas but its not like ill be much use anyway by that point. Also if i go into labour during my holiday will I lose it as holiday and it become Maternity leave or will I get it back or what? If anyone has a clue please let me know :) Thank you x

have you not put you maternity leave request in with your manager/bookroom?

AFAIK as soon as you have your baby and inform the office ( maybe not you inform them you may be busy) then you go onto maternity leave and any leave booked in this time will be returned to you as it has not been used

depending how good your manager/bookroom is this should happen automatically but I would suggest a phone call ince you have you rself sorted to make sure

as for the december week this is usually a no a/l week unless you are on a roatation where you get weeks off but you could always ask your dom they may agree

My date to put in for my leave is today but ive been signed off sick so will be taking it back with me next week (my boss hasnt been in touch to say any different) Ill see what the boss says about that week off at Xmas, quite a lot of people are telling me to have as much time off before I give birth as I can but i just dont want to waste the time I could be spending with the baby, I mean if I took 4wks off and then went 2wks over Ill be "wasting" 6wks maternity leave and that seems stupid lol :) Thanks for your reply xx

Just a thought.
If you were to start your maternity on say the 24th Dec you would be entitled to the 25th,26th,1st and 2nd(Scotland) back in lieu.
You could then tag the weeks A/L in Dec as well as the week in Feb, onto the end of your maternity leave add the Bank Holidays and effectively extend your maternity by three weeks.
