Repick and seniority

Don't know if this is the right place for this but have other offices come up against this one, we are just about to do a repick of duties and have been told that 2 thirds into the pick it will break the seniority and the A/G's will have their pick and then after them it will carry on with the rest of the full timers, so in other words the A/G's who all have less time in will have a pick over senior men and this has been approved by the union. How can this be right we have always done it on seniority once again it looks like the goal posts have been moved and the union just let them.

The only breaks for seniority are for MTFS, Equality (DDA) cases, skills (driving for CDV's you need at least one driver per pair) and perhaps flexibility. Therefore A/g's should pick in line with their seniority
What is being proposed for your office is outside of way forward and other national agreements so it would be wise to contact your area rep
or basically tell them to :dcfo

If you took the trouble to read the post you will have seen that the A/G's all have less time in than the full timers

if your dutys are not done by seniority refuse the re-sign
get your rep onto the area rep and get them to sort it out.

In the New delivery methods revision to get your 1 in 4 saturdays off is'nt very difficult for all the your senior posties to get the cushy numbers ie rurals/ firms/phg jobs.

Throwing a further complication in ...

What happens if some people want 'family friendly hours' (FFH) but are amongst the most junior in the office ?
There's a junior bloke in our MC whose missus is about to give birth, and the dad-to-be is very pally with the line manager. He's going round winding everyone up by saying that he 'doesn't give a sh!t what seniority he's got', because he's confident he can sweet-talk the DOM into letting him have an early shift, on account of his wanting / needing FFH.

Is he bullsh!tting, or does FFH outweigh seniority ?

There will be a lot of resentment if someone more senior to him is forced off earlys onto say nights or lates just to accommodate 'teachers pet'

but what happens if say there is only six ffm hours dutys and there is say ten opg that need it ? how do they pick who gets it

As far as i'm aware it's first come,first served.
I've never heard of seniority being applied to FF.

In a word...yes.
If you can show a genuine need and the business cannot come up with a genuine business reason not to.

So if someone has school-age children...
a) "I need to be on Earlys so I can pick my kids up from school"
b) "I need to be on Lates so I can take my kids to school"
c) "I need to be on Nights so I can take my kids to school and pick them up before I go to work"
All valid reasons, any one of which could be put forward by the SAME person...
Which would give him (or her) far more choices than people much higher up the seniority list

Family friendly is about need ... not want.
In your example the person would have to show that nobody else could pick the kids up or take them to school.
If they are requesting nights - who is looking after the kids when they are working?
Why can't they take them to school?
