what should our response be to late starts???

Post by Picket »

hi there all - am just wanting to find out - importantly and urgently i guess, what our response should be to these late starts? We don't want them! - certainly in our office anyways , but whats the Union's official stance on these later starts? i've heard that no agreement whatsoever has been reached by the Union and they oppose them. i've also heard local offices balloting for IA on this issue.

today after being told last week the late starts have been agreed and will be implemented - we had a new official looking notice on our notice board telling everyone their new individual starting times!

we don't want to be caught on the back foot - we want to step out and meet them before they think we've all swallowed this - well i'm calling it bullying - they're puffing out their chests saying its coming in and its agreed so just accept it - well you can go take a running jump!!!!

so whats the next step - our rep has just come back from 2 week hols and is a bit bemused - i guess he'll contact his senior union colleagues - but whats the word i need to spread - non of us wants to be caught sitting on our haunches.

i know they can't implement anything till Sep4 + theres also some legal issue i've heard talked about - something about a 28 day notice - can anyone clarify this and is there any official copys i can get hold of to shove in managers face if he on sep 5 says you can have a lie in tomorrow!

Thanks for this site too is superb - :mad

The official line is not to agree or implement anything. The earlier starts have NOT been agreed and are subject to National negotiation. Your rep should go into disagreement and hand the disagreement letter to the manager and contact the area rep with a copy.

I personally have gone to stage 1 disagreement, but what it will achieve i am unsure about, the date set by RM is the 17th Sept. but as yet we have not had any official notice from RM. But we should remember this will be one of the issues being discussed at the moment so we should wait and see.

Your a******e managers have no right to say it's been agreed. take a grievance out on them, because this sounds like harrassment.
Nothing is agreed at all at present and they have no right to put anything up on any notice boards about times of individual rounds.
We must wait until 4 sep and so should they!!!! tossers :mad

Is that the mile high club? I can tell you from personal experience the 10.55 from Manchester to Waterloo goes nowhere near a mile high!

will rm really bring in these later start times so close to christmas pressure?
i personally would have thought not, it would be utter chaos, in my humble opinion they will hold off until after the christmas period before trying to impliment the later start times, but then im a fool and dumb and dumber will press on regardless of the consequences :lfo :cfo

Post by bexhil palace »

Our Dom today tried to inform the workforce that 6.15 starts are planned
for our office beginning on the 17th sept, but was politelly asked to refrain
from issuing RM directives whilst we are in national negotiations.

EASTERN NUMBER 5 BRANCH
Later start times PE Delivery Offices

Along with Barry Jennings CWU Div Rep and Steve Clarke CWU Distribution, Lee Walsh Sub Area Delivery Rep and I today met with Steve Glenn acting AGM and Steve Radcliff Transport manager.

The purpose of the meeting was to progress the disagreement on later starts for offices in the PE area, although not every office in the area has had proposals for later starts at present it became clear that it is Royal Mail policy to move ALL delivery duties to 0600 or later.
During the meeting we asked a direct question on the movement of start times, that being the real reason behind the change. The managers claimed that the movement was due to the later arrival of mail into delivery offices from the mail centre, due to the introduction of 56mph. This being the case we asked why several offices that were having later starts proposed were in fact going to receive their mail at the same time as present – the answer then changed to its all about uniform delivery times and admitted that Royal Mail has a policy of 0600 or later starts.

When challenged on why mail would arrive at an office at the normal time and then sit there waiting for staff to arrive at their new later time – they could not give a sensible answer other than its ROYAL MAIL POLICY to start later.

Other questions asked:

What % of mail will arrive later into the mail centre from other offices/airports due to the 56mph – RM answer – we don’t know

What % of mail will arrive into delivery offices later due to 56mph – RM answer – we don’t know

What will be the new arrive time for all delivery offices – RM answer – we don’t know

On long days delivery members finish times will exceed the 1400 last letter, what will members do for the last part of their duty, will you alter their contracted hours – RM answer - we don’t know

Having asked them the above questions it became clear that the local managers could not justify moving to later start times other than, its Royal Mail national policy. We have now requested further information and refused to continue with the stage two disagreements until they supply that information.

AT THIS STAGE THERE SHOULD BE NO AGREEMENT TO ALTER START TIMES
