Have 3 suspended on wilful delay, rep needs help.

We had a bag search on the door yesterday and 3 posties got caught with mail and have been suspended.

Postie 1. Has really bad home issue's and suffering from deep deppresion and i doubt knows what day it is never mind a few missorts in his bag. He had just a few odd letters and we feel with that he might be ok due to his condition.

Postie 2. Had letters from a delivery he had done on OT and not his round. We going to try that the office was closed when he finished and hope

Postie 3. Is pretty fooked. His a rural driver and had dropped the van back before taking a pouch home and then bringing it back containing a meaty handfull of letters for his delivery, inc a few 1st class.

Our rep is quite worried about Postie 3. Any ideas ?

We are all seriously worried about Postie 1 as his close to the edge of a complete break down

The rep asked me for any ideas so i said i would pick some brains on here.

Also less serious 6 others were given serious warnings for leaving mail on the frame, this included redirections and kill offs.

Is this accepted practice in your office krussel?
When was the last time your members signed the security book and were they asked to read before signing?
Has your manager clearly explained local guidelines on disposing of undelivered mail?

Thing is nothing has happened like this in my office for 15 years and when it ever did those who were caught just got a warning. This came out the blue with no warnings.

In my 22 years ive only seen posties suspended for theft or hitting someone.


Postie 3 has a fact finding interview on saturday morning and it seems they are dead keen to have him out the door. He is also a postie who tends to extend and break off a lot, funny that

They can still pull you up about letters in the box, if its a few.

I never knew that. As far as iam aware that does not gone on around my patch.

Trouble is Postie 3 came back to the office to sign his van back and then went home

What happens in other areas is no defence I'm afraid. There are so many different local agreements and in each individual office it would be a precedent but not for other offices.

I have seen people sacked for wilful delay under three circumstances, mail left on the frame, in the pouch and in the post box - whatever the reason you take the chance and you know it is a chance. My advice to the rep would be to get an Area and or a Div rep involved asap. The problem is that in effect it is the same offence for all three and if they are seriously looking at getting rid of one, then......................

Postie 3 is f*cked. How can you even defend him? I have sympathy for him, but it's hard to actually defend the guy. Personally, I don't even take pouches home, let alone mail. Work stays at work. If I get missorts and don't have time to deliver them, they go back the same day - endorsed. That's about it. If you take mail home then you deserve to be sacked, as far as I'm concerned.

I have to say i think your right i recon his out the door. Not sure about 2 either

I am hoping some allowence will be made for Postie 1 as i would not like to say what he may do if they sack him as work is his only escape from his home problems at the moment.

How things can change over night from a happy (well ish) office getting on with the job to a place where everyone is now affraid to fart.

Disgusting Rm management again, looking to reduce numbers by any
bully boy tactics. What does it matter if they're going to be re- delivered
the day after, answer, it doesn't because people haven't got a clue
which letters they're getting on any set day.

So say it was an important letter you were expecting and the postie shoved it back through the system to be delivered sometime later, because he couldn't be arsed to deliver it when he should have done?

to be honest all three staff could be sacked if they have all been in the job
for a few years they should know enough about the game by now.also next time when
bag searches are being made get someone outside the office to warn staff.
when second delivieries were still going it was quite widespread to bring back work
but nowdays most staff would not think of bringing work back the nextday.no one likes
to see or hear of staff losing their jobs for bring a few letters back but it will always happen.

i would also think your manager will be on his way to another job as your office is not running to well.
leaving work in frames like redirections,dead,items pending,or anything is asking for troble nowdays.

the next few meetings must target these problems.
