World Class Mail
We understand Royal Mail are about to launch World Class Mail within all Mail Centres across the Anglia Division. The issue of WCM forms part of the Business transformation Agreement, however the CWU nationally has made a decision to suspend all involvement in the future rollout of WCM until National Issues are addressed & resolved and the failure by Royal Mail to adhere to the agreed approach to WCM.
As you will be aware by now Royal Mail have reneged on paying you your £500 colleague share money claiming that the business at this time is worthless, this despite them still finding the money to pay the managerial and director grades bonus payments. These payments in most cases were well over £1,000 and were paid just weeks after Royal Mail refused to pay postal workers their colleague share payments, which made up part of the agreement that ended the dispute in 2009. Add this issue to the other outstanding issues such as compulsory redundancies and it is becoming obvious to all that Royal Mail are not adhering to the agreement they signed up to in 2007.
It is sheer hypocrisy for Royal Mail to spend millions of pounds on WCM when at the same time they refuse to pay postal workers what is rightfully theirs. It seems Royal Mail at this moment in time run two sets of accounts, one for their own initiatives such as WCM and managers bonuses which shows the industry has plenty of money and another for postal workers which show the business is broke.
What you decide to do as an individual will be up to you, but remember, World Class Mail is not being implemented for your benefit. It is being implemented to generate yet more savings for Royal Mail, savings that at this time you will see nothing of. It is also a tool to bypass your Union and introduce un-agreed and unsafe working practises.
With the above points in mind we would urge you to think very seriously as to whether you believe getting involved is in your best interest’s long term. We understand that being offered time off from your duty or being given overtime to come in and perform a special project may seem very appealing. But some short term gain could in the long run see you and your colleagues having duties changes and overtime reduced.
Your National and Local Union are advising all members that they should honour their contract of employment but should not become involved in any work outside of their contract or in conflict with existing agreements.
It is clear that Royal Mail will approach members’ to participate in WCM however the union’s position is clear. Do not get involved until the national issues are resolved
We urge you to think very carefully before getting involved as any involvement could undermine the talks that are going on nationally to get Royal Mail to pay you the money you are owed.

Like the bit about two royal mail accounts. We are always told that running costs just involve postmen and this is the one they work on to increase efficiency (decrease that cost). The cost of managers is separate and controlled by someone else. Im starting to believe that unless 12 postmen leave through VR then they will not remove a manager position, but only a year after the 12 left. The world class mail budget is limitless as it cannot be allowed to fail, we must get the Japanese professors approval.

Great to see some stuff on world class mails. I am new to this and it took me a while to hunt this down. Greatful for the Anglia info.

Could someone tell me wot exactly work class mails is, is it like all the other teamworking stuff that we fought against in the past - is it one of them things that is gonna just go away - is it hear to stay - and how dangerous is it.

I know there is a lot o questions hear but all I seem to hear from management is - oh its ok the union has agreed it, its world class mails!!!!!!!
