weekday overtime not being paid.

I'm on a fixed term 3 month contract which has just been renewed for the first time. On a 20 hr contract i normally work over due to the time it takes to get me to my walk. Thing is, the hours i get paid are ALWAYS a few hours short. The story around the office is the manager editing the overtime to try to get away with it hoping we dont notice. Can we not do anything about this? its every time. Other posties have told me its common.

I'd just stop doing overtime, this too me is delibarate and you could take action against the manager concerned.

As mentioned already, get a diary and right your hours down every day. Are you filling in a Green Overtime sheet when you finish? If so this should tally with your Diary. Check your hours when you get your payslip..if your short don't get stroppy just point it out to your DIM.

Often once he realises that you're checking your hours he'll probably stop taking the piss. They always try it on and you can imagine if they're doing it to every new guy and getting away with it a few times they're saving a fortune. He may very well try and bullshit you with some crap. If so see your Rep...If not in the Union then join... they may be useless for National Problems but your Rep can be very helpful in your Office. If still not happy see Rep and fill in a Grievance Form.

I realise it's not practical for you to refuse OT, if you need the extra cash, and you may feel as if you've got to keep the DIM happy if you want your contract renewed. However you can't really allow him to take the piss at the beginning or he'll just keep doing it. Good Luck. P.S Make sure you're claiming your Meal Relief if you're not taking it, that's another favourite!

She's refused to pay me them because i hadnt signed for them. When i refused to do overtime she has threatened to suspend me. Am i going to get anywhere reporting her for this?

But being on a FT contract does you no favours.

What do you mean by "signed for them"? Do you mean you didn't complete an OT sheet? Might have to plead ignorance on that one...did anyone tell you what to do about that sort of thing (OT)? DIMs often try the "No one told you to come in early...No one asked you to work OT" angle.

You have to learn NOT TO REFUSE OT, rather just inform the DIM that you're only contracted for "X" ammount of hours and you've got to be finished by whenever! Search Articles on this site about Cutting Off, there's quite a few.

I presume you only "Refused" any OT because you weren't getting paid for it? If you don't want any OT at all it's simple you start your clock running when you sign in and then make sure your back in the office, and completely finished (i.e packets, signed for sheet & keys handed in) when your 4 hours are up.

Find your Office Rep and ask his advice, your DIM seems to laying it on a bit thick you might have a case for Harassment & Bullying, but that's a serious step. You have to realise these Management Idiots have absolutely no Management or People Skills. Normally they just spout of the same old well used Bullshit that they've heard other Management Type Assholes using. When you present them with your well thought out, and presented, "point of view" they haven't got a bloody clue!

thanks postman and dorset. i've obviously got a lot to learn. seems to me like they out to get anything for nothing, cos it seems like a lot of dirty tricks to me. Its a real pity cos i love the job, once i'm out of the office.
