Stage 1 - Grievance
It looks like from what I have read on here that you cannot appeal a stage 1.
However, I am very angry at been given a Stage 1 as I have been off due to a foot operation.
My lino said that it would be unlikely that if I went sick again due to the same problem that I would be put on a stage 2.
This is just ridiculous. I don't believe I should have had this stage as I have only been on a stage once before and that was 10 years ago.
The point being, is a grievance my only option and if so, would it achieve anything other than me showing that I am p*** off?
Also, if I did put in a grievance against the line manager do I have to discuss this with the DOM or give the DOM the paperwork?

Re: Stage 1 - Grievance
the decision to issue a stage 1 or 2 cannot be appealed and the decision is down to the manager taking into account all absences and causes plus any mitigation you or your rep put forward.Only a stage 3 gives you the right of appeal.

the attendance procedure is designed to maintain good attendance , if you are going to postpone your ops until your record is clear and continue to work then it has the desired affect ! agreed ?

Re: Stage 1 - Grievance
The CWU are fighting (how hard is debatable) for appeals on ALL stages. And thats the way it should be.
I am so sick and tired of glorified supervisors (linos) playing (very badly I might add) at doctors and nurses. Funnily enough they seem to have illness after illness and no stages? Weird...

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Dont think so. If it was, it is being totally abused by management. It can only help maintain good attendance where someone is taking the rise. ie days off here and there, with the excuse being cold, stomach upset etc etc. and a regular pattern. It cannot and should not be used against people with genuine illness and injury where a Doctor has certified that person as being unable to work. How a Union whos job it is to work on behalf of it,s members could have ever agreed to this, beggars belief.

Re: Stage 1 - Grievance
I am also baffled that the Union didn't sort this out properly a long time ago. However, is it still worth putting in a grievance or have I just got to hope I haven't got to go off sick anytime soon with my foot or anything else?

Agreed - But its not really in line with the spirit of the agreement, or condusive to good employee engagement which RM always seem to claim when it suits. Even judges have said that a mechanicstic application of the procedures is innapropriate and likely to lead (industrial) confrontation. (my emphasis in brackets).

Re: Stage 1 - Grievance
If any postponement of the op is going to cause further damage, then it is going to have a detrimental effect and isn't going to maintain good attendance in the longer term is it?74tower wrote:the attendance procedure is designed to maintain good attendance , if you are going to postpone your ops until your record is clear and continue to work then it has the desired affect ! agreed ?

The attendance procedure is a bag of shite enforced by a collection of shitebags.
It's sole purpose is to move members along a conveyor belt towards the door.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is talking....shite.

I think the Attendance Procedure would be OK if it wasn't enforced by a collection of shitebags.

think you need to get your doctor to sign you for light duties till your op......unless that counts towards a stage!!

The people who complain about the Attendance procedure are usually the ones who fall foul...However the explanation of why Stage Warnings are issued , I agree are shite....fishtank wrote:The attendance procedure is a bag of shite enforced by a collection of shitebags.

Re: Stage 1 - Grievance
we have a guy in my office who was issued with a stage one after having time off for an operation and treatment for prostate cancer.....the line manager told him that he had to issue it but if it gets to a stage 3 then the factors would be taken into consideration.
