other businesses mail(tnt etc)

i'm a postie and a customer (residential) ask me why am i delivering the likes of TNT and all other competitors mail why don't we stop delivering it, i jokingly said we would not have anything to deliver and the walks would be shorter but putting jokes aside why are we delivering their mail, i know they are paying royal mail to deliver it?

Royal Mail is required to negotiate "access agreements" with any large mailer or rival licensed operator. These are commercial agreements, negotiated independently of Postcomm. (Details of individual access agreements are available on Royal Mail's website.) But if organisations are unable to agree with Royal Mail a fair price for access, we can to intervene to ensure that it is made available on appropriate terms.
The first access agreement was negotiated between Royal Mail and UK Mail in 2004. Since then, more agreements have been set up and, according to Royal Mail's latest figures (May 2007), approximately 273 million items of mail per month are now handled under access arrangements

Depending who you listen to this is good for us RM lie about how much money they make from these agreements or its bad and we are delivering the competitions mail for F**K ALL.

this is a prime example of RM spin . . . . . there can only be 2 possible truths here 1 ) RM has negotiated a price that makes a profit and they're lying to us to keep our demands down 2 ) RM has negotiated a price that makes a loss in which case that kind of idiot management should not be in control of this company

so they're either liers or idiots or both . . . . . kind of hard to choose really
