I heard that Postman Pat was dismissed for gross misconduct a while back.

Firstly he changed the number plates on his van before going out on duty without DVLA authorisation, and without informing his manager. This was only bought to light when police were doing a random check, and found that PAT1 was not registered to any Royal Mail vehicle.

He was in breach of health and safety, and was taken down the conduct code for allowing a live animal to be taken on his duty. It is against Royal Mail rules to allow animals to be taken on Royal Mail premises, or vehicles (except guide dogs)

He was also found to be guilty of wilfull delay of mail. It takes him over an hour to collect the mail from the post office some days.

His DOM has answered numerous complaints from customers as he wakes them up with "Knock, ring, letters through your door" Most people would rather just have letters through the door unless there's anything that needs signing for, or a parcel. However his customer have been assured that they won't be woken up once the later starts kick in.

Despite being dismissed, he did receive a letter of support asking him to be reinstated by the lady in the post office, however the letter has been withdrawn in exchange for her post office to not be included on the next list of closures.
