The massive yes vote was announced on May 23rd yet still no mention of strike dates. Does anyone know if this is because there are talks going on?
Work is due to be moved from the doomed London offices next Mon, so the CWU needs to get its act together if it is set to announce strike dates.
Or is it the case they're running scared, and we're being sold down the river yet again!

National Talks have taken place since Wednesday and are continuing today.I cant reveal the details yet but progress was being made. If the talks collaspe today then we have a plan so dont worry.

:ncfo talks we should all be balloted it seems all the reps have gone on leave or swapped to an early duty i heared one rep last night at ndc say im not walking out for them they would do nothing for us.then an hour later saw him with tea and custard creams in the managers office.cushy duties realease time to sort out duties if you dont want the job JOGG ON

A joint statement has reached which stops Royal Mail moving the work from South London to Croydon next week to allow for a two week period of talks to try and resolve the issues.

Buying time no doubt ,in order to implement their plans should things escalate.Watching a slow train crash springs to mind, when will the CWU give it to the man and start dictating events not following them and adjusting tactics to suit rm 's policies

It's that old argument that in order to keep the public and media on side you have to be seen to be cooperative,genuinely looking for a solution and not intransigent.
Personally i don't think the public really gives a s**t either way.
The media hates us and will hate us no matter what we do.

What is for sure is that Royal Mail has known for over a year how the London Mailcentre scenario would play out and exactly what the LDC's reaction to it would be so if after not looking for a solution for 12 months an amicable solution is suddenly found after two weeks i wouldn't trust it as far as i could throw Mark Higson.

Prevarication makes the Union look weak in the eyes of it's adherents.I'm not sure Bob Crowe's lot would do so well if they listened to popular opinion but I take your point FT that the leaders feel that they should appear to be reasonable , which of course they are anyway

The union also has an obligation to it's members to fully explore any possible solutions.
Having said that...and this is only a personal opinion...
I would have announced strike dates before entering into negotiations.
In my opinion it would have focused the minds of those involved and stopped the talks dragging out.

Fishtank Royal Mail knew what strike action we were going to announce it was even annouced on one of their conference calls, they knew that other mail centres and divisions were relaying to their regional management teams and area processing managers. Lets just say that they were outfoxed.
E6 meant there was no hiding place for anyone and a lot of work has been done.

But lets anyalise the situration further Mark Higson has been demoted , John Duncan has come in above him. Mark Higson is now in charge of just operations and his plan has been changed by the business. Now of course Mark Higson , Paul Tolhurst, Steve Cameron and the London Regional Management team have known their would be a strike if they push ahead with their plans.

But Moya and John Duncan are not neccessary in the internal politics in Royal Mail and may have a different agenda in getting Royal Mail ready for being sold off. A strike is therefore not great for doing that.

Now is Jaw Jaw better than war war , well I think the unions role is to try and resolve the issues and if we cannot then strike action will follow. I think we become stronger from the talks not weakers. Their peoples plans headlines do not match the facts on who has signed on the dotted line.

In my opinion of knowing the chacters from Royal Mail they will be very angry that they have had to pause their plan. Lets see how the talks go wehave still got the ballot and thats still a pressure point for Royal Mail.

what about Higsons letter??? This 2 weeks will just give RMAIL more time to plan, they ain't going to change there path and I think we all know that. They have strike coordinators allover the country and no doubt they are planning a casual work force in London to screw us due to the motion E6, wake up!!! why 2 weeeks?, after a couple of days you should know which way the talks are going. I bet they have or planning out houses in London as we speak.
