Smug Faces

Post by CHARLIE BEAR »

Hello Comrades,

I found it very depressing when I reported for work today. My mood wasn't improved by seeing the smug faces of the managers at my office. They are under a deluded belief that Royal Mail has somehow won. This is not even the beginning of the end, comrades.

However, having said that, I am troubled by the fact that there is enough time to clear the backlog between now and September 4 and I fear that talks will break down.

We must get behind our union leaders and support their actions, even if we disagree. My belief is that the dispute should have continued, but we have to accept that decision and look forward. When talks break down, then an all-out strike is our only option. If we stay united we can win this.

Good luck,

Charlie Bear[/b]

the strike breakers in my office where overheard having a discussion about the suspension of the I/A. ACCORDING to them the reason for this was that the CWU where going no where ?. ALTHOUGH i think the union made a mistake suspending the I/A, I HAVE TO REMIND THEM WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED. RM have had to suspend the ex. action on summer lasping, early starts, they have backtracked on the d2ds, loss of early shift allowance and most of all THE TWO MUPPETS HAVE HAD TO AGREE TO MEET THE CWU something they have said they WOULD NEVER DO. AT LEAST WE CAN SAY THAT WE KEEP OUR PROMISES TELL NO LIES, AND STAND TOGETHER FOR WHAT WE BELIVE. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS

Our managers have been a bit different but then our reps with the aid of this forum have been able to keep everyone, including the managers, aware of the true position. The Managers know we were winning and the DOM was not happy that he cant get the later starts in because of the agreement.

I've said this before in another thread, but it's worth repeating, I reckon ....

I disagree. IF we have to pick up where we left off, and re-start the strikes, why not continue with the rolling strike tactics ? The 2 one-day national strikes were ineffective, if we're totally honest. But the rolling strikes caused a backlog and got Leighton & Crozier to the table (unless you believe Gordon Brown leaned on them to sort this out before calling a snap October election). You'd have a hell of a job getting decent support for an all-out strike at any time of year, but in the run-up to Christmas ? Worst possible time to try to get an all-out strike going, plus of course, the public will turn on us BIG-TIME!

I know that if we do have to call on people to go out yet again, in September or October, support will not be as solid as it has been so far. But don't forget, traffic levels will be nearly double what they were when we first tried to create a backlog. So, the way I see it, even if the number of people who don't obey the strike call rises sharply, there should still be enough disruption from those that do take part in fresh rolling strikes to cause backlogs that RM can't overcome, due to the higher traffic levels. At that point, if RM offer 'meaningful talks' we tell 'em "OK, but after that bullsh!t you gave us in August, the strikes will continue whilst talks are being held, to assist you in concentrating on the matter at hand. They will only stop when we have an agreement that has been voted on and agreed by the entire membership. Not before."

I am positive that if we carry on the rolling strikes we will still have 100% out, I say this as we were having problems before the strike and the DOM is not well respected. However, if we go all out I can see turn out dropping to about 75%. Still not bad but not as good.

Our managers and other managers that I have seen since the IA was suspended are a bit different. They feel totally let down by their senior managers. After weeks of teling people at WTL sessions that nothing will change and there is no point in taking action at the last minute Crozier and Leighton do a u turn. This has really peed of many managers. Its time to rub it in boys...we gotta get the shites so pissed off that they might actually vote for IA themselves..

Yes, I think we should seize the opportunity to rub some noses in the s**t which Leighton and Crozier have left on the hall carpet. Let's remember in particular those brown nosed gimps who were 'promoted' for three months when they find themselves back among the workers walking the streets.

Let's keep this simple . . .RM have not won . . . . the CWU is merely keeping to its promise to suspend action if they enter talks, we keep our promises even if Crozier & Leighton don't . . . . . . if this all goes tits up (as it probably will) then come 4th Sept we all start again BUT this time we are entering a busier time of year and doing the same actions will have a greater effect without costing us any more. . . . yet again that's what the union promised us, maximum disruption with minimum loss of pay . . . . . . KEEP THE FAITH we have only made a small step but at least it's in the right direction

I think your right, if the talks break down - and a lot of us have a sneaking suspicion they will - the rolling strikes are really the only option.
If a second time Leighton and Crozier sued for peace and asked for `talks` we couldn`t go through all the s**t again without getting a solid agreement. As you`ve said we would lose membership backing and any public support there is.
