Hi all,
We are looking to make contact with local Union Reps & public sector workers, with a view to building a strong anti-cuts movement locally. We are a leaderless group, open to all, who want to highlight the injustice of public spending cuts at a time when big business is avoiding massive amounts of tax, & banks are still gambling & paying out huge bonuses with our money, while refusing to put anything back.
We have an action planned this Saturday (28th), specifically against NHS cuts (to tie in with National day of action): "Local activists will assemble at Calverley Park Cafe from 11am to 12pm, all welcome. Bring any medical clothes/props you may have, and/or banners if you wish. We will then go into the shopping area, where some of us will engage in peaceful civil disobedience in the form of street theatre, while others make speeches and do leafleting. This is designed to be a very inclusive, fun & non-threatening protest. There is no pressure on anyone joining us to do anything they are not comfortable with, but solidarity in terms of numbers would be very much appreciated! We will then re-convene in the park for informal chat, and future planning."
We will be following this, hopefully a fortnight later with a community-wide meeting/rally against the cuts generally, with speakers from a variety of sections of the community. If you can help disseminate this information &/or suggest other contacts, please do! We need all the help we can get to make this effective.
