Bank Holiday's Cut

Recently I have changed my 21 hours part time duties, from Mon-Fri evenings to 11 hours on Sunday and 10 hours on Monday nights, working on the CSS machines. The Bookroom has now told me I am only entitled to 4 bank holidays a year. As 6 of them are on Mondays I have to take 2 of them as annual leave or work the following day. Does anyone know if this is correct or has this happened to anyone else?

Get the CWU involved because I think they cant force you to take annual leave to cover the bank holidays (but see Direct gov quote below its all a bit vague) or make you work the next day in lieu of it. However they are right that because you only work 2 days a week then you are only entitled to a pro-rata amount of them.

Public and bank holidays

You do not have a statutory right to paid leave on bank and public holidays. If your employer gives paid leave on a bank or public holiday, this can count towards your minimum holiday entitlement. There are eight permanent bank and public holidays in England and Wales (nine in Scotland and ten in Northern Ireland).

If you work on a bank or public holiday, there is no automatic right to an enhanced pay rate. What you get paid depends on your contract of employment.

If you are part time and your employer gives workers additional time off on bank holidays, this should be given pro rata to you as well, even if the bank holiday does not fall on your usual work day.
