Sorry had a quick look and couldn,t see this mentioned.Our Dom is claiming Good Friday to be a non service day meaning as yet again its my day off i dont get a day back.Is this correct?

Wrong - both DOMs

Good Friday, is, was and will always be a STATUTORY BANK HOLIDAY - so its not a non service day for RM its a bank Holiday.

Good Friday is a bank holiday.
If your day off falls on that day, YOU DO GET IT BACK.
Will they try anything and stoop to any depth.

Edit....It must be a Royal Mail thing..... Even the Scottish Government say Good Friday.

It is a bank holiday. Just look in a diary and show it to them. Makes me wonder what planet these managers are living on? I know lets try it on because most people wont know the truth. Alternatively most managers dont kow the law they try to implement.

If you are on annual leave, do you still get credited with a day in lieu for a Bank Holiday?

Yes you do.
Normally it's forward credited to the same year's annual leave allocation which is probably why you haven't noticed but the Royal Wedding may not have been in the system when your annual leave went in so you will get it back the following year.
If it's your day off it doesn't get picked up until that week so that always gets credited after the fact.

The Scotland Act 1998 assigns to Scottish Ministers the responsibility for setting bank holidays (Part II of Schedule 5). The Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 provides the statutory basis for UK bank holidays; and Schedule 1 to the Act prescribes Scottish bank holidays.

Special days can be appointed under the 1971 Act as bank holidays (either additional or in place of bank holidays which fall on a Saturday or Sunday) subject to Royal Proclamation each year. These include Boxing Day, which has been an additional bank holiday in Scotland since 1974 and the last Monday in May which has been a bank holiday since 1978.

The 1971 Act also enables the Queen to appoint substitute bank holidays in any one year by Royal Proclamation. Substitute days are customarily appointed for all UK bank holidays which fall on a Saturday or Sunday. Where any of the dates fall on a Sunday, the Act substitutes the following Monday for that date. If any fall on a Saturday (or if Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday), the Royal Proclamation includes substitute days for these days.

It has been announced that there will be a special bank holiday in 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The 2012 late May bank holiday will be moved to Monday 4 June 2012 and an additional Jubilee bank holiday will be on Tuesday 5 June 2012.

Bank holidays, as with other pay and conditions of service issues, are a contractual matter between employer and employees. The law does not give statutory rights to time off on bank holidays or to extra pay. This has always been the case. Employees should check the position with their employer if they are in doubt.
