Are people supporting the strike by working their days off?

Are people who work their days off during strike week so they dont lose a day pay not supporting the strike?

A lot of guys in our office who do strike during strike week but make up for the lose in pay by working there day off, do forum members think they are not supporting the stike, and just treating strike day as a day off.?

These people also dont bother going to the picket line while the ones like me who lose a day pay will spend most of the working day at the picket line.

Good question, tho i wud still say ones that work day off still support the strike, a lot of these people prob always worked a a lot of days off anyhow..so really they still loose out id say, mayb ones wont agree.

I believe that if you strike on the strike days then you are supporting the strike even if this is all that you do.

If you strike and picket - good on you and thanks for the effort.

If you strike, picket, and refuse to work beyond your hours - well done the sacrifice you show is inspiring.

If you strike, picket, refuse to work beyond your hours and don't work your day off. Blimey you are hardcore and I thank you for the outstanding commitment to the cause.

What I am trying to say is that minimum we should hope for is that people don't scab. If they want to recoup losses from striking I am not going to condemn them. In a way as you get OT for working your day off it actually costs RM more to get you to work the same hours as you normally would.

I don't get asked to work my day off anymore so it's no problem to me, I may be a little bit on the hardcore side but I don't believe anyone who strikes should work their day off

I'm going to work my day off in 2 weeks time , have'nt done any overtime for over a year. Don't really want to go in, but I've got the kids school uniforms and shoes to buy.

We have a guy in our office who has broke the strike and gone in because of other people working their day off.I myself work my day off if possible but fully support the strike and man the picket line.If the union were to come out and request that we work only our normal hours i would also fully support that but until such time i need to recoup some lost income if possible.

i don't get offered my days off on strike wwek either,apart from one week i was on leave i can't remember the last time i got a full wage packet...and i picket..and i don't do extra..not a hero,just doing my bit..told my rep i have to find a part time job until strikes are over..as i said to her i'd rather wipe old ladies asses than betray her or any of you guys!! lotta love!!

I work my rest day on s/a. The bottom line is, until a full work to rule is initiated as a part of this dispute, then by all means earn money for RDW.
If the top table tell people ''we will work to rule from this date'', then i'll stop doing my s/a for the duration of the dispute.

YES, A DIFFICULT ONE - I WOULD AND HAVE WORKED A DAY OFF, BUT AS SOON AS WE ARE TOLD 'NO OVERTIME OR NUFFIN' THEN I'M RIGHT WITH MY COLLEAGUES.

I only think theres a problem when people are brought in to do something out of the ordinary to help battle the strike effort.

For example people doing extended or coming in on their day off and generally covering other duties on a non strike day, thats fine, its not like they are doing anything out of the ordinary, or extra even to help lessen the impact of the strike.

I've posted this question before and tbh i'm totaly against ANYBODY doing OT in a strike week.
We've got 3 or 4 down our way and a quiet word has been said.
One guy asked when the next strike day was and then said thats ok i can work my day off that week!!
This same guy worked his long weekend after the last Fri strike!

Just my opinion and i know some of my good friends on here disagree.

Although there is not an official OT ban it's common sense,not just the strike weeks but as a rule all the time while we are in dispute.
We have been on an unofficial OT ban at my place since we went on the vans,although 2 strike breakers still do it and the odd one or two others,which like i said ,words have been said,not nastyly though.

At Plymouth MDEC those who take part in i/a are not offered o/t only strike breakers get it.

At my D/O out of the 95% striking, i'd honestly say 80% of them are working their day off

At the same token, most of them ar very vocal about strike action and how it's needed. Bit ironic,but there you go.

I'm sure that's illegal as it's victimising those who are taking lawful industrial action.

You may wish to check it out with your Branch, who I'm sure will advise those affected to take grievances out, with a possible complaint to a tribunal thrown in for good measure.
