we at n d c crick are havin our lengh of service attacked by fellow workers on family freindly duties.we had many of our early duties taken away from uson our resign and was shifted to lates or nights with help from our own union.what about a level playing field

is seniority a level playing field?
FF is a government scheme and RM have to make attempts to meet it

The legislation provides eligible employees the right to request a change in their contractual working pattern from their employer and places a statutory duty on the employer to seriously consider it and only reject it where there is a clear business reason for doing so.

I think the union should help those that need family friendly hours if they are genuine reguardless of time served, But that's just me i guess, someone that repped to make things fair rather than just about how long you have worked for the company.

Seniority is dying Limey...good thing or bad...i'm not convinced either way
How long it takes before it draws it's last breath is another question but i can see a few getting nervous already,it may be a good thing for the union though as a lot of senior guys are far too quiet when it comes to issues that might only effect those lower down the seniority list.

Back on topic i think FF is a good thing but is being abused, most of our FF requests are for mornings or nights, strange no one wants 2-10 or 4-12 shifts on FF. I think its a joke when someone's on a FF morning duty and does overtime till 7 o clock 3 days a week or on nights FF and starts at 4.30pm on ot

totally agree. guys in our office do the same.
i dont have FF as we can work around our shifts but it means i dont do any OT,suits me too ;)
but guys getting FF and then doing whole walks in OT make a mockery of it.
perhaps a limit on % of OT is an answer

FF is a new piece of legislation that is clearly open to abuse. There should be a common sense approach to this legislation.

What would some on here like to do with seniority? What could it be replaced with? Would you have the right colour of blue-eyes? Be the office pet? Some may not agree, seniority might not agree with them. But who decides?

Ok i will correct you...the reason why "senior" guys are quiet is because the issues that effect junior members generally do not effect them or us as i am considered "senior".
It's got nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future.
Issues like fixed term contracts,defined contribution pension schemes and ridiculous unachievable workloads didn't effect us when we were "junior" because they didn't exist.
I have defended seniority in the past and as i pointed out in my previous post i am not convinced either way.
There is scope for abuse in the FF system but there is also a great deal of abuse in the seniority system which feeds through to the revision process and earning opportunities.
Recognised order?....makes me nervous that does.

If you don't like it when you first want to join,then don't join.I had to put up with all the crappy shifts when i first started,but thats how it was and i got on with it. When most of today's seniors started the rounds were much smaller.
You can't take someone from a sedentary lifestyle and expect them to physically be able to complete a 4hr+ delivery.
When most of today's seniors started if they were 2 hrs over their time it would take them to ...........about 11am.
Now if you are 2 hrs (and the rest) over your time, you aren't finishing until 5 or 6pm.
It can't be compared.
And what is it with the attitude.........I was shat on so they should get shat on?

fair,so the folks starting now are earning their seniority in exactly the same way as the senior guys did?
how many foolks are told about seniority when they start?
