1 in 4 sat off

Post by guvenor »

without sounding repetative over this issue
can anyone supply document or printout that says rm have to give us at least 1 in 4 sats off as per agreement
locally we are being palmed off by mgmnt saying they cant give everyone this option
in fact they are not giving anyone this option although they want longer deliv for everyone later start times for everyone
is there any part of agreement which states we get 1 in 4 off
thats what people voted on

BT2010 Says

It means creating a fresh role for Delivery employees through the introduction of flexible working practices, improved attendance patterns (including fewer Saturdays), a better work-life balance, and by continuing to provide reasonable levels of take home pay.

Page 17

Saturday AttendancesIn addition to the above it is jointly recognised that Saturday attendances and in particular the number of Saturdays worked require special attention in order to meet the aspirations of employees and the needs of the business.

In recognition of this Royal Mail and CWU commit to providing more Saturday off options as part of improved attendance patterns for delivery employees. We have jointly explored and identified a number of options/opportunities to maximise the number of Saturdays off.

Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme. In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3.

Progress on all the issues/objectives above will be jointly monitored and reviewed at national level on an ongoing basis.

Page 25

In order to inform the revision discussions and provide a reference for employee aspirations, including options around Saturday attendances in line with the paragraph on attendances and duty structures an informal non binding preference exercise (provided nationally) will be carried out prior to the commencement of the 6 step revision process.

Initial planning work is carried out and the ground ahead is prepared taking full account of Saturday Options.

It depends who you are talking to...

If it's HQ they will say it's everyone who wants it.
If it's your DOM he will say it's where it's feasible or...not you.
If your office want 1in4 and your DOM says no go to disagreement.
If nothing else it will give the full-release bods something to talk about over coffee.

they are trying to accomodate ptrs at our expense
no one apparentely to get 1 in 4 i actually want at least 1 in 2 sats off as well as a few others
mgmt seem to have belief its what majority want ie
split ft vote with 2 options which went kind of down the middle only other option was to attract pt vote with promise of being made up ft,
they fell for it thus enabling mgmt to say majority didnt want 1 in 4 off.
now bear in mind this vote was endorsed and arranged by mgmt and cwu jointly the whole office were supposed to vote on this even non union members endorsed by cwu. now as im a union member how can someone who doesn,t pay subs get same priority from union in a vote as members which can then in turn affect results of said vote against said ft union members, wtf am i paying union subs for they are now accomadating people who broke picket lines last year is this a valid union vote
you couldnt make it up.
going to ask questions tmrrw dom taking our wtl any advice welcome

But I don't think the "majority" in his office DO want 1 in 4.
They want more p/t made f/t and the price for this is to keep 1 in 6 Saturdays.
He seems to find this "majority" thing the problem.
4 day weeks are also in the menu but if only one person wanted it, would RM have to provide it for them - because it was in the agreement?

It's a difficult situation.
It appears that the whole office voted on the duty options..
This leaves me with conflicting feelings...and i hate sitting on the fence.
On the one hand these attendance patterns affect everyone so why shouldn't everyone have a say...on the other hand should non-members have a say when they don't support the union in any way?
No office workplan can support an infinite number of attendance patterns but our 1 in 4 had no final impact on the full-time/part-time ratio and everyone who wanted 1in4 got it.It was complex and plans A-Y had to be scrapped before we came up with Z.
I suspect his DOM is just being lazy

So did you let your non-members vote?
It would be an ideal way to engage those non-members wouldn't it?

Right thing imo, they can't have it both ways.
My personal views anyway.

it shouldn't go to a vote, it's part of the agreement, tell him you want 1 in 4 off whether he likes it or not, otherwise you want to vote on everything else in agreement like 2 to a van and walk sequencing and longer delivery spans. It's an agreement and should be implimented. I have already told my DOM he can put it to whatever vote he likes but I will be getting 1 in 4 whether everyone else wants it or not.
