Re: can not drive
There will still be non driving jobs, plenty of HCTs need pushed around and tbh you probably wont last very much longer in the new RM, only youngsters will be able to cope for a year or 2 and then they'll be thrown on the scrap heap

There were a few worrying about this in my office but now we've been told the van share is not happening.enzio wrote:what is royalmail going to do with all the postman that can not drive were will they go . i know that all the new postman that come in to the job now have to drive but what about the ones allready in if they can not pick a duty because they can not drive what happens then any one know

Re: can not drive
Non-drivers will be looked after...it's seniority that will be the loser.
If you have 30 pairs of van-share duties you have 30 spaces for non-drivers.
It's unlikely that you will have 30 non-drivers in your office enzio....
It's drivers that will be bumped down to rest day cover and reserves to make space for non-drivers.

Re: can not drive
Only if you have a lot of non-drivers. It has always been a requirement in my office that all staff must be able/willing to drive.fishtank wrote:Non-drivers will be looked after...it's seniority that will be the loser.

Q. What if an individual is unable to drive i.e. no driving licence or cannot drive for health reasons?
A. If there are employees in your unit that are unable to drive you will need to consider what other duty options are available. You may need to accommodate these employees on shared routes as a planned non driver. (There is a limit to the number of non drivers you can accommodate on shared deliveries. It is, therefore, recommended that this is not an option to employees that can drive but choose not to.) You should explore what other opportunities there are to accommodate the individual within your office. If individuals cannot be accommodated in your office, you may be able to accommodate them via a move to another unit within a reasonable distance, where suitable work is available. Where this is not possible an employee may effectively become surplus and in this instance you should take advice from your Regional ER/IR Manager.
The following principles should be applied to your re-pick:
1. Staff will need to be trained on the equipment they will be using
2. Duties should be divided between driving and non-driving duties
3. People covered by DDA need to be offered suitable duties as a priority in the process re-pick
4. Driving duties will be restricted to existing and volunteer new drivers and non-driving duties will be restricted to non-drivers
5. A driver is needed for every shared van pair. Only one non-driver can pick into a shared van duty pair
6. Shared van partners without driving licences should be restricted to 50% or less of the total number of shared van partners. The exact ratio will be determined by you, but the balance you must strike is between creating a duty set:
a. With enough options to match your peoples’ skills
b. With enough flexibility to give you adequate cover in cases of people failure and unplanned absence
In the example duty detail display this is - 13 Shared vans, 6 non drivers (App 2)
7. The non-driving duties can be allocated to any of the shared vans, up to the agreed ratio
8. The cover and the leave reserve duties for the shared vans must be drivers to ensure that the van can be taken out each day

Re: can not drive
But then we have the problem of posties who drive their car but don't want to drive the vans.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: can not drive
If they've been assessed they will be expected to drive...POSTMAN wrote:But then we have the problem of posties who drive their car but don't want to drive the vans.
If they don't they run the risk of losing all seniority and ending up a reserve or worse.....getting punted to another office.4. Driving duties will be restricted to existing and volunteer new drivers

Re: can not drive
That's what was being banded around just before I left. A newbie getting a walk/duty after two weeks over a 20 year service person. It cause some discussion with the dim saying his usual deal with it and there's the door etc etCpostietaz wrote:is this where suitability will over ride seneority![]()
