Area rep becoming a manager

I've just heard about a SE Area Rep who is crossing over to the other side to become a manager.

2 of our reps have done the dirty deed over the last 4 years. It probably a reason any union rep nowadays dont get much support.

Last 3 reps before the present...IHR.
One of our line managers used to be a rep.
A previous(long time ago) manager was a senior branch official.
He was a pr*ck and the members refused to work for him so RM moved him out...eventually IHR.

I wouldn't dream of it, dave7634. Most of you guys out there have a thankless task and do a really good job....my OH used to be a CWU rep, so I do understand.

I had dealings with the above area rep, and another rep from a nearby office who went on to become a lino and suspected them both of dodgy dealings. Amply suited to the task of RM management, both of them

we had this in our office about 15 years ago so its not new.our area rep lost his cushy job and didn't fancy working for a living so he ended up as a manager within weeks.
we now have a situation where a former manager wants to be our sub-rep.he was a crap manager who s**t on us all when he got the chance and now he wants to represent us on the union.he hasn't got a hope in hell of getting elected though as most of us remember what he was like but it beggers belief that he thought he would stand a chance.tosser!!!!!

I myself have been "tapped" a few times.Not interested. The way they are treated,makes you wonder whether these people have any morals.It's disgusting!
It's a thankless task,but,(at times!),worthwhile. I'll keep on going thanks.......

One of the reason I opted for the local union rep job was because a previous union rep was also cover manager - unethical. I personally wouldn't dream of it, not interested in crossing to the dark side. However, it is the best way to get rid of reps - to offer management positions.
