POSTAL DEPARTMENT REVIEW – ASSISTANT SECRETARY INDOOR ROLE

The Postal Executive yesterday agreed a number of recommendations associated with a review of the Postal Department and how we shape reform across the Union.

All Postal Branches will receive a copy of the review document and all relevant recommendations in the next few days.

We will also explain how we involve Branches and our representatives in the process of reform.

In the meantime, we want to draw attention to what was agreed in relation to the vacant Assistant Secretary Indoor role.

The Postal Executive had previously agreed not to fill the current vacancy pending the outcome of the review. We can now confirm that we have agreed to proceed as follows:-

We will not advertise the Assistant Secretary Indoor role in the forthcoming national elections timetable.

Following further consultation with the National Officers, we will finalise how we absorb the current Assistant Secretary Indoor workload, as part of redesigning all officers’ workloads by the 4th February 2011.

An appropriate rule change will be tabled to Annual Conference 2011, confirming the cessation of the Assistant Secretary Indoor role.

Until the end of Annual Conference 2011 the Indoor Secretary role will continue to be covered in an acting capacity as now.

Please ensure that the content of the LTB is given appropriate circulation.
