Workplace closures
If no work is available to you (eg the office has closed and you do not work at home) then your employer cannot dock your pay or require you to take annual leave.
Banking of hours - ie requiring us to work OT unpaid to make up hours - is illegal.

Good find, they are still trying it on at our DO

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: Banking hours - the UK legal position
Received a communication from our DO today stating that they will be looking to clawback hours over the next few weeks. Where there are full days lost they will be discussing whether this can be taken as annual leave or unpaid leave.
Looking at the above posting the government clearly states that where there are workplace closures and no work is available to you then your employer cannot dock your pay or require you to take annual leave.
Working in a small sub, we were told to stay at home as no mail would be coming out. In other words a workplace closure.
Are Royal Mail therefore above the law of this land, and why are the CWU not stamping on this immediately. I am now reaching the end of my patience with the CWU and see nothing for the weekly payments I make. Unless I see some reaction over the coming days from the CWU to another outrage from RM I will be ceasing my payments to the CWU from the beginning of the new year.

No they can't 'make you' work 1/2 hour over, that relates to the flexibility clause in the Pay and Modernisation Agreement and the 1/2 hour flexibility option is voluntary. Only work flexibly if you are able and happy to, otherwise finish at your normal duty time.spoodoo wrote:Can they force you to work extra hours ...or is it only half an hour they can make you go over ure time daily???
