Annual Leave Forced On Us

Just had a call from a lad at our office.

Apparently everyone has been given a sheet showing when their annual leave will be for THE NEXT 8 YEARS, and if you arent happy with it you have to try and find someone to swap with you.

And the union has agreed to it!!!!!!!!!

Ok, taking that on board, lets just worry about next year.

Everyone taking 4 weeks AL has been allocated 2 blocks of two weeks. Everyone buying extra days and taking 6 weeks AL has been allocated 2 blocks of 3 weeks. If they are no good to you then you have to negotiate swaps with other people.

Does that seem fair???

Anyway, Ive had a conference call with 2 area reps and they are looking into things.

Although why im doing the office reps job while Im on AL this week is beyond me (well actually its not because he apparently likes the idea)

He might well like the idea but did he put it to a vote/ballot if not I would say that as this has a direct impact on members then the agreement is invalid.

Theres certainly been no vote.

These sheets were just handed out this morning apparently and people were basically told like it or lump it.

Ill be getting my hands on a sheet later today, as requested by the area rep.

To answer the other question, the blocks of 2/3 weeks advance every year Ive been told.

Eg. Someone taking 4 weeks AL:

Year 1 - 1st 2 weeks in april, 1st 2 weeks in november.
Year 2 - Last 2 weeks in april, last 2 weeks in november.
And so on..................

Can't see this sticking if strength of feeling in office is against it.
But it won't go away on it's own. 1st you ballot the cwu members.
And if there is a majority against it,you refuse to play ball.

at the minute r/m can only allocate 2 weeks al every year.
if your dim is trying it on(which i think he/she is)then fire in a grievance and see what happens.

Technically if you go by that then the manager has done the right thing.

Although why he's done it is another thing,must of taken him ages to sort out.

We still use seniority at our place and it works well,but we're a smallish office.

I know Fish,for some reason we've kept it the old way,the rep and screws are not aware of half of agreements going around.
It does work though (At the moment anyway)and 99.9% of the time we get our 1st choice.
