do ex reps make the worst managers?

I heard this from two different posties, so thought I'd ask it on here. The managers who tend to have the most bullying complaints or notoriously difficult to work for, are ironically ex union reps/officials. Any truth in this, or perhaps in the offices Ive worked in this has happened? Is it because they know the 'tricks of the trade' played by clued up staff or the union?

I've come across a few in my time, and they do tend to be the worst bastards you're ever likely to cross swords with.
I don't know how they can do it, but every one I've come across, has been able to cast aside their priciples, flush what little pride they once had down the bog, and freely, willingly, allow themselves to be used by RM senior management to constantly batter, bewilder, demoralise, the workers on the front-line.

My district seems to be particularly awash with these "Judases", must be something in the God-awful coffee our canteens dish up.

It's novel, at least!
I can honestly say, I've never heard of an ex-manager becoming a union rep, before. I'd be worried that he looked at things from a manager's viewpoint, rather than a worker's viewpoint, and too often for my liking.

That was the general feeling in the end. When the local elections came up he didn't stand again.
TBH he only did it because nobody else would.

That's a pity if he had been a good rep he would have had some valuable insights to how to "address" and delay managerial proposals.

Aye just heard another one turned to the dark side this week,gutted,i am a rep.

We had a manager temporarily at our place not so long back,
was a union rep for quite a few years,
good guy, he'd talk to u on your level, and not try to make u feel inferior like the usual gaffers,
had nothing but respect for the posties and nothing but contempt for our usual management team,
can't say a bad word about him to be honest.

Guys we must be unique in our office, our DOM is an ex rep and was fairly well advanced in the union, conference rostrum etc. He says he left the union becaus he was completely pissed off with the poitics of usless reps from bigger branches trading of their votes to keep tthemselves in a position.

He is now a DOM and he treats everyone as an equal,he calls a spade a spade and tries to be as fair as possible but I think you have to be honest and admit some of our people would try the paitience of a saint. The strange thing is that because he is someone we can work with our office is performing extrenely well and is regarded as one of the better ones, this is without the big stick.
