going on holiday whilst on the sick
can anyone on here give clarification to this? would you be in deep s**t if you went abroad whilst on sickleave, does it constitute gross misconduct and leaving you facing the sack...anyone know who,s done it, what happened etc. comments please.

You would need permission from your local manager or staff resourcing unit to do this - otherwise you risk having your sick pay stopped and dropped to SSP (as a minimum).
It largely depends on the specifics I suppose - if you're off with a bad back and planning a fortnight's skiiing I'd expect some grief!
If it's a holiday that was already booked, and you are too ill to work at all, but can go on this holiday with no worsening of your condition, then you should be OK.

If you did that in some of the DOs mentioned on here you would have a P45 waiting for you on your return.

i did it a couple of months ago,told my manager that it would help my rehab post op,he agreed,just make sure they don't try it on by marking the sickness periodbefore & after as 2 different periods (as they did with me),other than that you're good to go,you won't get that A/L back tho

I went to Canada for 2 weeks and I have been off for the last year or so. My doctor said it would do me good as I was under a lot of stress. I just did it and didnt tell them.... Call it rehabilitation....

iv left royal mail now, ihr 3 months ago but i did go on holiday while on sick. i informed them that it had been booked for sometime and would possibly help the stress i was under. i informed line manager and he agreed it would be ok, i then claimed the 2 weeks annual leave back as couldnt be classed as annual leave while i was technicall on the sick.
