pouch searches

i would like a straight answer to this please
at wtll this morning were given lecture about mail integrity with all the usual questions and answers
only the lino mentioned we were going to do pouch searches in the morning when ft staff start work.
we are under the impression this practise was stopped years ago due to civil liberties etc
can anyone inform us if this practise exists and who can perform this task.
also it seems it would only involve ft staff as pt start later and mgmt wouldnt have time
is this allowed can we have a unified answer to this not this office that office routine must be in black and white somewhere.

in my office in eh area the line manager sometimes checks bag/pouches at the signing in desk.he checks in front of you and then you sign a sheet,i think he is meant to do 5 aday but it rarely happens just when he can be arsed.i have never heard of this practice ending because of civil liberties.

They can do bag checks where and when they want. Cant see the problem with them unless people have something to hide.

Normal event in the past to have pouch / rural tray checked on return to office. I`m surprised it doesn`t happen every day now- it`s an easier way to sack people than looking for vans unlocked/door open. if you bring a killoff back, write something on it like `refused` before you get in the yard. Bringing stuff back for no reason is asking to be caught out and if anyone does it regularly its only a matter of time before "mind if I look in your pouch mate" brings you out in a - - - bye bye!

Yes, they can search pouches, it's part of their job, and they are supposed to do so many a day.don't take it personally. also your pouched off mail should be checked on a regular basis, to ensure they are properly endorsed,

But you may have personal stuff (like medication) that is none of their business.
And checking pouches doesn't catch the people who shove the mail down their trousers when they come in in the morning.

I think,and can someone confirm,they deffo can search your pouch,also your locker,and near enough sure your car as well.
If any of this happens obviously make sure witnesses or a rep are present.

Also not sure whether this is for IB or the screws as well.

They can search your pouch and your locker obviously with you present and a witness if you wish.
They can only search your car or your home WITH your permission.
Of course if it becomes a crminal matter and the police are brought in,THE POLICE(not the band with sting etc.) don't need your permission.

Edit As long as the cops have a valid warrant.

Used to search bags every now and then in our office but haven't done it for ages. Wish they would start again it would catch out the dodgy feckers bringing back thier overtime that they throw back in the sorting for others to do!

Why can they search our lockers, without our consent?
Lockers shouldn't contain any work. Only personal items, that you want to keep safe, whilst you work. So why should they have the right to search it?
Obviously, if they really think there's anything to find, they can bring the Police in to do a search. It's not like they're going to find anything unoward in the vast majority of our lockers. But there's an important principe at stake here. Why can't we store things, without letting people nose about in our lockers, on a whim.

The lockers are RM property Andy...it's that simple.
They can do what the like with them.Your gear is your gear but it's in their locker.
They can't rummage through your stuff but they can ask you to empty it so they can have a look in the locker and if you refuse they can empty your gear out because the locker belongs...to them.

I wish I'd have known sooner! I lost my locker, when I moved to a new site this year (not enough to go around yet). I don't think I'll bother chasing it up, now. I'll just leave everything in the boot of my car.
