2 questions...

Post by dave7634 »

Can someone tell me what is meant by the phrase, "reasonable earnings"? Does this mean that if Mr or Miss Postman Pat has been used to xx amount of hours docket, that they can then proclaim that their 'resonable earnings' are in jepoardy and demand OT to make it up?

Also, if someone is telling their manager that they're going to go over their time and the manager refuses to pay OT and instead says, "come in later tomorrow morning instead by the time you went over today", can they say this or can the individual say that they need the overtime as they're only on a 20 or 30hr contract and need the £££?

I've always been baffled by the the managers when they tell you to come in later the next day, it just creates a vicious circle:

Start time 9am for part timer (for example).

Monday, go over by an hour, in at 10am on Tuesday
Tuesday, go over by 2 hours, in at 11am on Wednesday
Wednesday, go over 3 hours, in at midday on Thursday
Thursday, go over by 4 hours, in at 1pm Friday
Friday, go over by 5 hours, in at your contracted finish time on saturday...good job it's your day off!

On a heavy week you could theoretically be asked to start when you're meant to finish if the managers insist on keeping their fists clenched.

Of course not, they don't have to make sure you have loads of docket.
Also, if someone is telling their manager that they're going to go over their time and the manager refuses to pay OT and instead says, "come in later tomorrow morning instead by the time you went over today", can they say this or can the individual say that they need the overtime as they're only on a 20 or 30hr contract and need the £££?
You either go for the 30min flex or cut off.
He does not have to pay you docket, you can't demand it cause you're skint, well unless of course he agrees to it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You cannot proclaim that your 'resonable earnings' are in jepoardy and demand OT to make it up. However in a perfect world your DOM and Rep should sit down during their weekly resourcing meeting and identify opportunities for those that wish to do OT to protect their 'resonable earnings' .

If you told your Line Manager that you were unable to complete he should have informed you at the time that he wanted you be flexible under phase 3 of Pay and Modernisation 2007. This is up to a maximum of 30 minutes and must be taken back during the same week. If he did not then it is OT and should be paid as OT. If he refuses refuse to go over Cut Off and bring the mail back. Then fill in a grievance form about the incident, phone the Bullying and Harassment line if he tries to pressurise you into doing it.
