DDA

recently after an appointment with an ATOS doctor my condition has been termed as a DDA. where does this leave me in terms of my job? i find the day to day aspects of the job more and more difficult and painful. i am a lot slower than i used to be and under the Royal Mail's current policies of everything being done as quickly and cheaply as possible, i guess i'm just the sort of person they could do without. i'm sure without the DDA they would be trying to sack me on performance issues.
if anyone has any knowledge of such a situation any advice would be gratefully received. thanks in advance

i am not sure where you work in terms of a delivery office or a mail centre.I am now under dda because i have a long term illness.I work in a mail centre and if you have atos confirm your condition then you do have some rights.If you work within a dely office you may be able to do inward duties,ie front counter or work in the den but your choices are quite limited.A few years ago you may have been able to transfer to a mail centre but these options are quite limited now because of the company shedding jobs.The company must try and give you a job that meets your needs and you do have some rights under the dda employment act.Unfortunately the actual day to day experience of living with dda does not live up to the theory behind protection.If the company try and get rid of you ,you can take them to tribunal under descrimination.Its a tough process ,one that i have been through but the threat of rm going to court can sometimes make them keen to comply

A lot depends on your DOM if you work on delivery,some are good and will try and offer you an indoor job as mentioned in the previous post...
BUT alot of these arsewipes like to quote `office savings` they might come out with the usual, there are no jobs indoor at your place of work(even though if my office is anything to go by indoor jobs get alloted to managers friends or women or people who have had ONE spell of a bad back ) )and then expect you to go to a mailcentre which might be miles away...they tried this on me as quote ` The business only has to offer you a job at a mailcentre as a reasonable adjustment` my lawyers and a tribunal judge thought otherwise as my place of works is only a 15 mins walk from my house and the mailcentre they wanted me to go was a 60 mile round trip!

Specific issues such as DDA cases will be examined and accommodated in line with relevant legislation.This is in the new joint agreement and they are supposed to be making provisions that people who are covered under the DDA will get a duty fit for purpose...I very much doubt it.
