Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond – Pay Related Issues (Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights’)

Following the introduction of the new basic pay supplements, it became apparent that employees previously in receipt of Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights’ payments held as a result of the 2007 Pay and Modernisation Agreement, had these payments ceased and subsumed into the new basic pay supplements.

The Union has raised this issue with Royal Mail and we can now confirm the following:-

Royal Mail has agreed to reinstate the difference between the previous Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights’ of £23.55 and the previous Early Shift One payment of £12.37 per week. This ensures parity of treatment.

Therefore, employees receiving Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights’ payments before they were ceased in June, will now receive an additional £11.18 per week on a personal rights basis.

In addition, pensionability associated with the previous payment of £23.55 will be fully protected on a personal rights basis.

These payments will be backdated to the implementation date of the new basic pay supplements and will be paid as soon as possible to those affected.

In recent weeks, the Union has resolved a number of anomalies arising from the introduction of the new basic pay supplements and we are continuing to progress outstanding issues with Royal Mail. Unfortunately, some of these issues require work to be undertaken on a site by site basis. We will continue to update Branches on progress in due course.

Could Branches please ensure that the members affected by the Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights’ issue are made aware of the content of this LTB.

I think that has been lost, from what I was told at union meetings (how accurate that information is not sure now) the £12 and £6 allowance was lost.

We got a letter through from the union today notifying us it will be paid in the pay for the week commencing Aug28th or 29th cannae remember....so it`ll be in your payslip tomorrow hopefully but the wording was a bit odd,if not this week,definately next week
