I started off on a 30 hour permanent contract and after 6 months this was changed to temp 40 hours, this was 30 months ago.
Because there is a resign about to happen I would like to keep my walk but this means I would need perm 40 hours.
How long can this perm/temp combination go on for ?
Temporary normally means for a set period ,where do I stand on this ?

Re: temporary/permanent contract
the MTSF agreement clearly states that after 2 years service you will be made up to perm. Trouble is the law says its 4 years and that is the time frame Royal Mail are working with.
Silly really as i don't see the point in having an agreement if its so blatantly ignored.

Re: temporary/permanent contract
But do they know(remember) at your place that you are only temp on 40hrs.
You may be able to get away with it if they let you sign for it,cause once you've signed for it you are in.

"in ur contract of employment dated XX-04-08 u were advised u were employed on fixed term contract. this letter is to confirm that although the fixed term has now expired we have extended ur contract whch remains on a temporary basis doin opg"

Not really the same thing...is it?The joint commitment will be to reduce temporary contracts by effective resource planning and joint co-operation in securing operational change covered by national agreements to the required timescales.Individual business units/recovery programmes will agree with CWU how they plan to substantiate temporary employess, giving priority to those with more then 2 years service and reviewing progress with the CWU on a regualar basis.

Page 48, first section under temporary contracts says "such contracts shall not exceed 2 years unless jointly agreed that there are very exceptional circumstances"

Let's examine the full paragraph...wingmanchillian wrote:

Royal Mail Group employees will be employed on substansive contracts except where there is genuine short term need identified.
Bullshit...they just employed FTCs everywhere short term need or not.
CWU will be consulted in advance when there is any such requirment.
Bullshit......or if they did somebody from HQ was sleeping on the job.
Where there is such a need identified specific event and time contracts may be issues for more or less then 12 months with the period of event being the determining factor.
Bullshit....what period of event was that....2007-2010?
Such contracts will not exceed 2 years unless it has been jointly agreed that there are exceptional circumstances.
Bullshit.....they have already and somebody turned a blind eye because this is a commitment NOT to do something...not a commitment to make it right after the fact.
So the whole agreement was Bull and the CWU,despite it being flagged up to them on numerous occasions did nothing...why?

Re: temporary/permanent contract
I absolutely agree its all been BS and personally i would like to see a ban on all revision activity until the MTSF is adhered to. We went to disagreement over this months ago though and so far haven't heard squat back so i am guessing thats not gonna happen any time soon.
I also agree that it seems to be a case of the union purposely turning a blind eye. Its a shame the higher ups cant see exactly what these contracts do to people's health over a long period of time. The stress its causing at my DO is ridiculous.

Re: temporary/permanent contract
Just a question what if you were given a fixed term contract that expired over three years ago rm didnt renew but kept paying you surely that must mean your safe an implied contract
should be enforced it doesnt matter if you have the paper work .any thoughts?

Re: temporary/permanent contract
I think one of the problems with the temp contract/MTSF situation,is that with RM closing down Mail Centres all over the country there will be a lot of MC staff made surplus,so in areas that RM know will have surplus OPGs at some time in the near future, they will not make temp OPGs permanent.I'm not saying i agree with that, but thats what i think the reason is.wingmanchillian wrote:I absolutely agree its all been BS and personally i would like to see a ban on all revision activity until the MTSF is adhered to. This happened at our place and the DOM couldn't get rid of a bad postie(He's gone on his own accord now anyway),but the DOM went with the MTSF 2 year thing which seems to be being ignored now.
