For a couple of years there has been n ongoing dispute in our office about what time we should start on Saturday. The Revision in 2008 stated it was 6am start. the problem we have is a group of posties wanted to start at 530am so they could finish at 1130am (or 11am without break). It was not voted for properly(show of hands in a small group) I and many others prefer 6am or even 7am on Saturday as we feel that it tires us out for the weekend starting so EARLY!.
Also the mail that comes in at 530am is all sorted to both primary and all to walks by 630am most Saturdays. That means we sit around doing nothing for 30mins - 1hour!.
Because the finish time is 11am without a break it means that most posties say to the boss that they cannot complete their walks by 11am s

Re: My DOM tryting to enforce 530am star Saturdays
1, Do you only do 6 hours on a sat for FT
2, Cant believe Dom getting away with hand backs on a sat so people can only do 6 hours and start early
3 What happened to matching hours with workload in your office

It does seem by way of all office workplans i have seen you have too many hours in on a Mon&TUEdolphlundgren73 wrote:Our times are mon 6am-230pm

Most offices i know would take 30mins off Mon&Tue and stick in on the Sat
Making Sat 6-1 This would go a long way to eradicate the cutting off. Your Sats seem and from what you say prove to be too short

Re: My DOM tryting to enforce 530am star Saturdays
It was my understanding that Saturday just wasn't recognized as a full working day. Im sure the SDD agreement states it will be significantly shorter. Also states missort run will be brought forward to allow town walks to get out earlier. Then in the P+M agreement it states Saturday attendance will remain the same.
Please correct me if I am wrong but my understanding was only when we have the full revision will Saturday become a full working day. Are there any other DO's that dont recognize Saturday as a full working day?
We normally do 6 - 12:30 on a Saturday but most are back by 11.
Speak to your rep about starting at 6 instead of 5:30. If you can show you are delivering more mail and not cutting off i cant see what his problem is. Could always argue its been common practise if you do get disciplined.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Dolph
You said in your first post
"many others prefer 6am or even 7am on Saturday as we feel that it tires us out for the weekend starting so EARLY!. "
I would suggest ALL of you who feel this way approach your Rep rather than just you on your own
Edited as originally suggested approaching the DOM together, but on reflection your Rep might be a better starting point (as Wingmanchillian suggested)
