day off,rights and notification

okay so Im back at RM now
at this point i am working as a floating reserve with no held duty
Im not that fussed by this as i dont do any overtime so its matters little what duty i do

however Im having issues with knowing my day off
last week i spoke to the lino on Saturday and asked what my day off would be for the following week
expained i needed to know for my mrs rota/childcare
told they would call me and inform me that day
no call
went in on monday not a happy bunny
got met with indifference and a blank look as if Saturday didnt exist
come forward ot this Saturday and again ask what my day off will be
told i would be phoned as the staffing hadnt been done
different lino this time.told him i got told the same last week with no call
so whilst i knew what would happen i went with it
no phonecall

so can anyone tell me the exact set up regarding notice of day off
once i get that sorted i will obviously start on my 1 sat in 6 off but at this point i just want to ensure i know my day off in advance
I dont feel asking on Saturday is unreasonable given 90% of the office will be on a set 1 in 6 pattern
part of the problem is most floaters will be low seniority and seem a bit of a pushover
i shall work to change this..........

I know in our area dutys are done 3 weeks in advance so people know thier day off for the next three weeks.

well theres no chance of that in our office
they run far to tight on staffing for that!
however i feel i should at the latest know by the Saturday
anywhere ive worked has had the rotas done by the Thursday for the next week

Your rep and your DOM are supposed to do the staffing for the week ahead so they can identify opportunities for lapsing.
I realise that some managers don't like doing the staffing a week in advance because it seems like too much hard work but you should know by the end of the week what duties you will be covering the following week.
That said, as a floating reserve "operational requirements" may be used to f**k you about.

right up to my finish time
the duty i am on this week (found out today) is a beast
quiet day today and finshed 4 minutes before my time
you can imagine what will happen on the busy days

Just do what the boys do in our office when they get put on a 6 day duty,go into the office first thing monday morning say you are working your 40 hours and no more.Keep their heads down all week until friday when the say to the dim,take it i am off tomorrow as i have done my hours.Nice little sat off.......

Not sure what happens in other offices but in ours the duties are on the wall near the signing in desk. Always posted on the FRIDAY before the following week, so EVERYONE who is a leave reserve knows in advance. Obviously the walk/ duty holders know theirs already.

Always was, and still is, the same in my old office - some weeks they even get them up on a Thursday or a (shock Horror!) Wednesday in the preceding week, just depended which LM was doing them that week
