searching through iwt throughputs for prep rates noticed
ips sort rates 22.9 or similar roughly 23 items per min.
fine no prob with that .
town prep rate listed as roughly 11 items per min why is this not applied in office then.
quizzed lm he hasn,t got a clue asked dom he was also pretty vagueand went away with copy of prep rates i gave him.
also asked what prep rate was being put into iwt to manufacture duties and spans quite important i thought.
union rep didn,t know ,is he not meant to be kept in the loop informed? then in turn inform members.
dom came back and said it was the planners who decide what goes into iwt and prep . i then asked who are the planners and you guessed the answer dont know??????????
so what about prep rates listed on iwt average guide 11 items per mini ask
answers were brill
1; we can sort much quicker than that were better than that ie were supposed to do 23 at ips and town prep at same rate.
2; if prep rates were 11 you would all slow down anyway and that would be industrial action and you could go on conduct code.
3; the prep rate of 11 items also includes tie down time.
answers by myself to those statements .
1. if we were so fast and good at sorting being better than figures quoted why did this office not recieve productivity bonuses at the time as we were repeatedly told we just missed out though mgmt reached their targets.
2i asked what would be the prep rate at town sorting for a person to be taken down code for failing to achieve targets would that not be 11 then .
3if prep rates include tie down time how does this work could you please explain.if it were 3 items per min 26 items ,8 items 674 items you would say same thing any it includes tie down and you couldn,t explain.
can anyone help

Dont forget the IWT don't give you time for deading mail & re-directions. Try getting them to add both into IWT and watch them going erm erm erm

Re: iwt ver 6 prep rates
slightly wrong there, was looking at the iwt for our office today, the page for inputting local duties has a column for redirections and on the performance page it does add extra time, your right about the dead mail though!islfor wrote:Dont forget the IWT don't give you time for deading mail & re-directions. Re: iwt ver 6 prep rates
There is no extra time to put into IWT - it's all supposed to be included already.
This is why you have rates in there that you think are generous.
Prep includes everything - it's an overall rate from walking up to an empty frame, all the way to walking out the door with a bag on your shoulder (including clearing down IPS, deads, redirections, bag weighing, signing out, weighing bags, the lot) suddenly it doesn't look so good.
IPS is overall throughput - ie you need to sort at the 31/minute test rate in order to achieve the throughput, cos when you're clearing boxes, getting more trays of mail to sort, wheeling Yorks in from the platform etc etc, your sorting rate falls to nil and the average drops.

You are 100% correct my friend, we discussed the same in our office this morning, one guy, 1hr 40 to prep, nice big smile, till we told him theuphillstruggle wrote:There is no extra time to put into IWT - it's all supposed to be included already.

Re: iwt ver 6 prep rates
Yes it does give an overall figure but it end break that down into how much time for ips, prep, redirections, tie down etc and these vary depending on size of walk, number of wings on frame and other factors

Re: iwt ver 6 prep rates
Last time I was preped tested a few years ago I came in at just under 10 items a min, asked the the DOM at the time how much quicker time wise to reach 11, the reply 10 mins.
Hardly going to break the bank is it?
At my D.O some can do better than 11 some do worse.

Re: iwt ver 6 prep rates
the question i wanted answered was when do they conduct code you its got to be statue for everyone so their must be a standard prep rate at your frame cos thats all mgmt are interested in hitting on us with
they count mail , spaces but not d2ds i might add.
so if i am to achieve standard sorting pass what rate do we go at not over min please
think the union have s**t on us with this

The IWT has not been agreed (yet) so they can not conduct code you using info from it , the conduct code is agreed with the union only things agreed with the union can be conduct code cases

The IWT as a revison tool has been agreed in principle and certain assumptions are being tested in a live enviornment to ensure they are correct.sirtophat wrote:The IWT has not been agreed (yet) so they can not conduct code you using info from it , the conduct code is agreed with the union only things agreed with the union can be conduct code cases
Remember the tool is not an indivdual performance tool and you cannot be disciplined for not achieving the required standard as it is an overall office assumption.
Things vary in an office for example not everyone has the same number of delivery points to prep , some have double or either tripple slots , redirections can be calculated per walk and time is given for doing them , the union has questioned that time has not been given for sorting them from the town corner.
Remember the IWT calculates all work from the time it arrives on the platform until it leaves the office.
The 3 parts of the IWT calculation is really
1. Traffic against the number of delivery points - This includes mech etc.
2. Local issues - is your office multi floor , does your office have secondary sorting , how many IPS frames do you have to clear down from , how many bag frames etc , what is the distance between areas ie IPS and prep frames and prioity service locker. What is the workflow, workplan.
3. Delivery - The trpe of delivery , rural , firms or town, what type of frame do you use and have you double slots or tripple slots, how many redirections and how many door to door items do you have.
No one should fear the IWT, however the quicker area reps and local reps can be trained on this tool the better. Remember you are not going to be experts but you should have a knowledge of the systems and be confident of ensuring your office has full involement in all aspects of the revison process. The reason your not going to be an expect is a planner has an intial 17 training programe to understand
the planning process and I have yet to meet a planner who is not going on another workshop /course to be upskilled on another aspect of the revision process.

Re: iwt ver 6 prep rates
remember the tool is not an individual performance tool
well try telling that to every rm manager and see what response is then
