Over the weekend you will have all received a letter from management about the ongoing national dispute. This bulletin is aimed at exposing the real motives behind the propaganda Royal Mail are pushing.

Royal Mail state that ‘it’s the business who employ you, pays you and contributes to your pensions scheme: and with colleague shares and the £800 dividend for hitting business performance this really is your business’

What they hide behind this statement is that they have offered us a pay rise half the rate of inflation, they want to make changes to our pensions scheme and they’d rather give us bonus payments based on unreachable targets than basic pay rises!

Royal Mail state that ‘many people are working through strikes’ and that attendance in some offices varies between ‘five and 60 percent’

What Royal Mail conveniently forgets is that support nationally for the strikes has been over 98%. Rather than face reality they focus on a handful of units nationwide. You will always have a minority of units across the country that refuse to back the union. Whilst this is wrong it just highlights how desperate Royal Mail are if they need to take statistics from a few scattered offices. There are there are over 2000 Royal Mail units nationwide. 98% of them withdrew there labour. This is the only statistic that matters. 98% of postal workers are standing united in rejection of Royal Mails business plan.

Royal Mail claim ‘more and more businesses are moving to downstream access’ –

It is a sad fact that customers have been moving to downstream access ever since Adam Crozier negotiated the Downstream access agreement. At the time he hailed it as the best thing since sliced bread. Royal Mail bemoans the impact of competition but they have done nothing to stop it. When the CWU offered to share a joint platform to challenge the liberalisation of the postal industry Royal Mail turned it down.

Royal Mail claim ‘we have spent 20 months explaining the strategy to the CWU’

This attitude is a key part of the dispute. Royal Mail is happy to explain, or to tell, or inform, dictate etc but they are still refusing to negotiate.

The position of the CWU remains exactly the same. We want a NEGOTIATED settlement to this dispute and are open to talks anytime. Please force this message home at you’re WTL sessions.

According to Billy Hayes this afternoon, support in the ballot was over 77% and since industrial action has commenced, support has risen to 84%.
