baby boy in hospital special leave

Post by wigglywoo12 »

hi folks my little boy of 4 weeks old was rushed into hospital last night with a stomach problem something called pyloric stenosis and has been admitted for a few days with this as he may require an operation and they are also checking for liver problems and high levels of jaundice too.i subsequently rang my dom to tell him i would not be able to make it into work as i also have 2 other children too.his responce was emergency leave will be fine but it will be without pay as the budget is stretched as it is.and you do realise this will be questioned by people above me.i do admit i was off for 2 days with a stomach bug 2 weeks ago and had a special leave day the week before because my eldest boy is being investigated for autism and adhd but there really is no compassion in this company is there.is it me being oversensitive with whats going on with my kids or is this a bit toss on royal mails part because i feel very pissed off. :cfo

Go sick, you get paid (assuming you've been employed for a year plus) and your sick record is in no way over the top, just take the time off as sick and blame it on stress, it's what I would do and I'm on a stage 1 :)

Write to the area manager and area rep. If no joy then write to that invisible man, Donald Brydon. They dont want any media of this type and I think you will get paid special leave.
It is shocking that RM behave this way but I think that it is the Dom rather than RM in this instance as I know previous Doms in my office would be fine whereas others would be similiar to yours.
Dont let it go and fight to get paid special leave.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

So sorry to hear about that.

Hope your lad makes a speedy recovery.

it is very sad that we work for a company that has absolutely no regard for our physical or mental well-being.
My missus has taken around 6 days for emergency leave over the last 18 months and was paid for all of them.

It does state in our contract that this type of leave is subject to managers discretion. That doesn't make it right.

Best wishes to your family mate.

got sent to another hospital 50 miles up the road for specialist surgery my baby has had an incision in his tummy and surgery performed to release a blockage in his digestive system put to sleep and everything.we ended up staying there so not all was good strange place didnt know when we would end up being discharged and everything.anyway rang dum everyday this week to explain what was happening not once did he ask me how things were going how little man was NOTHING.just kept telling me how he had managed to cover me but was struggling and if i knew if i would be back for saturday as he was up the creek.he even went as far as to ask me on the friday if would be able to pop back for work.oh yes my baby is recovering in hospital after surgery and he wants me to do a 150 mile round trip just for saturday geez.he even made out as tho he was doing me this big favour by paying me for one day out of four days emergency family leave.that was the final straw so i rang area rep from the hospital who turned the air blue with his angry outburst basically said the least i could have expected was a bit of support christ hes 1 month old for gods sake took my details and dums details and said he would contact him to have a word.thankfully back home now little man doing fine just sleeping alot (not complaining lol) been very stressful but all is great now.

Glad to hear you lads on the mend.

Unfortunately DOMS do not care about personal circumstances, only their budget and subsequent bonuses.

As said by previous posters good to hear the little lad is on the mend.

Just a word of advice when you go back to work try not to confuse your lad and the manager, just remember that the baby is the one that has more maturity.

Best wishes for you and your family in the future.

well just opened wage slip and tosser has paid me 1 days pay out of 4 days prick!!!.i mean for gods sake has he not read this (Urgent indicates an immediate need, the provision with pay should normally be one day, with further days unpaid or covered by holiday entitlement. Exceptional circumstances might warrant 3 days. Where regular treatment is occurring the employee should try and get appointments outside work hours and Post Office Ltd should help by arranging changes to working hours wherever possible. Managers should treat requests for additional time off with sympathy bearing in mind that a stoppage of pay will add to the stress of hospital treatment.
It should be noted that taking someone to hospital for an arranged appointment is not Special Leave A, but should be taken as Unpaid or Annual Leave) he did not even offer holiday entitlement this basically has added more stress than we need. £94 to pay rent, coucil tax electric, gas and support 3 kids arsehole.

This is the kind of stuff that infuriates me about this company!!! :arrrghhh

Not one bit of compassion, understanding or moral ethics applied by any of these creeps in charge. They only care about their office budget and their subsequent bonus as a result!!

Hang tough Brother!!
You will have to watch the finances as a result of this, but in a few weeks you will be back on an even keel.

Hope your young lad is fully fighting fit again.
