Why are so many still in the union ??

Post by Cheetah »

Every other thread on here is either pulling down a local rep or slating the leadership yet still people are financing them to do nothing. There are threads on about reps doing deals without putting it to the membership and so on.......

They have done nothing but create mass confusion for the ranks and secure their own position, telling us how to vote, agreeing change without going through process, they certainally are not representing the membership.......

For me a trade union is nothing if not democratic, and that is not telling members how to vote in a ballot, doing deals without the aprooval of it's members. That is why i left and will only return when they listen to and represent fairly all the membership..... People said change from within well it seems clear that isn't working, so much seems to be going on out of the agreement and being rushed in without proper planning and the union says nowt......

I'm only still in the union for local representation. My local reps are very good. If I were represented by the likes of those idiots at HQ I would've left a long time ago.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

personally i was in a DO with no rep for years and we got hammered in that time. Then came a string of dodgy agreements and i thought id had enough and was going to withdraw my subs.if looking at it nationally i still think i should.

now recently we have acquired a rep and things are looking up and life at work is slowly getting a little less stressful.we do seem to be lucky in the way our new rep seems not to be up the managers arris. so for the time being im staying in the union. dont get me wrong, if things go back to the way they were or it really goes pear shape when the revision comes in im outta there.

I'm waiting to see how we go, locally. If my workmates agree to stitch me up further, in addition to what was agreed Nationally, then I'm out.

As you said i'm only staying in the union at the moment for the office representation with regards to the D2D issues etc, which help slightly with the bullying, harrassment, etc.
I wont go out on strike though anymore until the union get their act together.

In Huddersfield we have an excellent IR Rep who has only just started and an experienced local rep promoted to ADR. We are extremely lucky ny the sounds of it, but then we are seen as militant :Very Happy

I wish i could get out of it now.
But the problem is they have left us in such a mess,we are fearing for are jobs.
So we have to keep paying the three quid, just for some sort of back up.
Quite a smart move on the unions behalf ,me thinks

I'm still in the CWU, because I have excellent local and area Reps, and still have hope that we'll get good people willing to stand against the fools at HQ.

I realise that in some areas they aren't as lucky as me. In fact, there are some areas where they're being screwed, by those who're supposed to represent them. But as long as there are some good Reps left, I'll support them. Just remember: The CWU is the only recognised Union for our grades. So if you leave, who'll represent you. Even at local level? :hmmmm
Sooner or later the s**t'll hit the fan. And if you're not in the Union, you'll have to arrange for your own representation. And pay for your own lawyer if/when you go to ET. Think about it.

Having said all that: If it wasn't for the excellent Reps in my area, I'd have thought long and hard about whether to stay in the Union or not.
