hello just wondering if any reps on here could give me some advise on my situation as there is no rep in our office.
i have an ongoing back complaint, i've recently had a surgical procedure and management has letters from my consultant at the hospital explaining my condition and the fact i am in pain doing my delivery.
have been advised to contact ATOS which has to be done through a line manager who always say that they will do this but always seem to be too busy (ironic or what !).
my round is on average 11 bags a day and about 100kilos. i'm over my time every day which i book, i will never work for free, but in our office the proposal is now to lapse a couple of duties which physically i will be unable to do. we all know that managers will shortly, or may already be doing in some offices, use the threat of performance standards and the conduct code to try and get there own way. i cannot physically work at a quicker pace than i already do,i am on medication and take pain killers daily to get me through the working day. my dom has stated in a round about way that if i cannot do the job then i will be got rid of. i will have quite a bit of time off due to hospital appointments and future surgical procedures which i need to go to but this gives royal mail a case against me on attendance issues.
after nearly 20 years service i can honestly say i hate what this job has become, i think its physically going to cripple me but i'm in my forties with a knackered back, who else would employ me and like most i have a mortgage and a family to support.

you need to speak to your area rep for advice. Plus get a Atos appointment try get a face to face one as the telephone ones are not as good. Royal Mail live or die by Atos so get them on your side. In my area it has been know for staff who are not fit to get work in the nearest mail centre.

If the condition is ongoing (pain every day) and likely to last more than a year and you are taking daily medication you should come under the definition for inclusion under the DDA 1995. Like postie 222 says immediately get in touch with your Area Rep and ask your manager for a refferal to ATOS. Get all your documentation from specialist/doctor regards your problem and give a copy to the Area Rep when he/she gets in touch. Put a request in writing to your lazy line manager for a ATOS refferal (date the letter and keep a copy) If he/she does not get back to you with an answer within 48 hours raise a grievance and inform your Area Rep.
