Union Membership Ratio

Post by joe379 »

I know so many people, including myself who have resigned from the union. These are 10, 20 year plus men who have just had enough. Does anyone know what percentage of Postmen are now in the CWU? Must be a record low now.

What's the point of resigning from the union mate? You would obviously be a NO vote in the ballot. If you aren't a member you just increase the chances of a YES vote.

I think it would be silly to NOT be affiliated to any union, especially now ! What do members actually want? The silence is deafening ,apart from the same old faces on this site. What about the "Rank & File"?

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

drb: if most follow your example you will get the union derecognised and then as an individual you can trust management to look after your interests.

Here are the reasons i and others resigned

1
We seem, as a union we are constantly at war with each other. The way forward agreement, HQ wanted it, we didn't, voted against it the forced to vote again to give them what they want
Pay and modernisation, HQ wanted it, we didn't and a bitter war was fought.
And with today's deal we find our selves in the same position.
2
Politics
We follow the labour party blind, they hurt our pension as much as the Tories with the removal of pension tax credits. And it was our old leader and now Home secretary Alan Johnson who helped introduce down stream access. And yet we still pay our membership fees to labour, even if you have removed the political levy.
3
No openness
Have you tried to contact Hayes or Ward?
Never get a reply, Post or Email. Do they consider themselves above explanation?

I know the argument concerning the no union representation, but with a pay cut this year, having family friendly hours, union defined words which mean you will still be working at 3 on a Saturday afternoon. Also having huge cuts in our pension, i stress the words ours, not the CWU's pension plan!
By continuing my membership i believe i give my tacit consent to the union in all the above matters, that I'm not prepared to do. A union this decisive does not deserve to serve. You only need to read the forums on here to see what the masses feel about the direction the union is going.
Not in my name cwu.

Because you have obviously having such a bad time of it and you stand by your principles will you hand back the 2% + 1.3% + 3.5% with the £20.60 plus the £400.
If so good for you because without the union you would be looking at SOD ALL! How shortsighted are you! The union was nearly broke by management last year and you are complaining about D2D which was not wanted in the first place and was never exclusively contracted to RM.

:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

Does that mean if i resign from the union i can keep my D2D payments,Early shift allowance,£400 diviend due in june and the full value of my collegueshares.
I am looking at SOD ALL-£20 per week. How short-sighted are you,24,000 of your workmates will lose their jobs with this agreement and those left will be burdened by ridiculous performance standards and unachievable workloads.
RM didn't even come close to breaking the union last year because we are the union but this agreement will make damm sure there is far fewer of us next time. :hmmmm

I am afraid not. RM don't want to pay you for D2D they want to put it into to your WORKLOAD for nothing! In fact you are not getting a pay rise either. Also you can stay late until 5 on saturday because RM have derecognised the CWU and can DO WHATEVER THEY WANT!

pcb do you not realise that by pushing through such an unpopular deal RM will not have to derecognise the union for it will not exist.
If you want evidence of this look at the agenda for the upcoming conference particularly the finance section, this union is in SERIOUS financial trouble with some even predicting bankruptcy, what do you think a mass exodus of members will do to that position.
Do you know anything about D2D? If RM thought for one minute they could simply shove it into workload for nothing they wouldn't have already done so.
D2D is ALL about quality and reliability and to improve those you MUST have staff commited and engaged to deliver the product and that means paying the going rate for them. :hmmmm
Under this agreement RM will do exactly what they want because although the words "the cwu will be involved" is repeated many times, being involved does not nean you have any control

I will gladly give the £20.60 if i keep my d2d payments, they work out to £35. Well done the union. More and more are resigning, from what i hear a good few thousand are expected to go if the deal gets in. If the union gos bust then maybe they will look back at the decisions that provoked mass resignations. As for no union representation, well, at the 3 offices i have worked at they are walked all over by managers. I stayed in the union for 18 years, i gave them more than enough chances, i wrote a long letter explaining my reasons and maybe if a reply was sent which tried to explain things i would have stayed. Instead our professional union sent back my letter with the words 'done' at the end. Shows what they think of you and your opinions.

One would presume that if you are No longer a member of the Union you accept what ever you are asked to do by management without any complaints, and all the changes bought in by Executive action you just go along with.
