long term sick 'advice plz'

Hi Chaps,

In a nutshell I have just entered in to my six months sick absense, I have had major knee construction so obviously unable to work.

In my absense I have had a couple of home phone appointments with ATOS basically asking about my knee problem before surgery and what amount of recovery i will expect etc. The dom still wants to refer me to ATOS for yet another bloody interview ...arrrghhh!! As you can imagine I am getting more than a little fed up with this now . I have a full knee brace on my leg which has to be kept on for a min of 6-8 weeks to prevent any movement greater than 30 degrees, then hopefully progressing to full movement. After my operation the surgeon gave me a 3 month sick note whilst I was in hospital. Have you got a clue why the dom keeps on persuing ATOS and anoying me with with voicemail messages on my phone???????

I'd say Royal Mail like a box of broken biscuits, all dry, tasteless and hard to stomach

be carefull mate i was in a simular position atos asked permission to write to my consultant to find out wot the score was next thing i knew was they as tryin to get rid of me on medical grounds area rep was crap but im still here

I was in a very similar position also, if you have been off with your knee problem for 6 months already and doc has given you another 3 months then you are close to the 12 months needed to fall under the remit of the DDA. My advice is to do your homework regarding reasonable adjustments, the DDA, i'm would be amazed if your mobility issues would not have you covered. ATOS are useless in most cases, but when it comes to the DDA they have to be precise.

I snapped my cruciate among other things and the prognosis from ATOS was 3-9 months recovery time, they also regarded me as falling under DDA, but be aware, RM will still try and find some way to Ill health Retire you if cannot get back to your normal duties within a time frame they deem acceptable and they will be constantly asking ATOS's advice about retiring you.

Write letters to your managers asking that all other opportunities away from delivery are considered for you, and state that you would probably now fall under the remit of the DDA. They then have an obligation to consider you for reasonable adjustments.
