Overtime withdrawn (again)

We have had just about had all overtime stripped from our office. Part timers are no longer allowed to come in early (paid) and if the 'computer' says a delivery should be done in a certain time and you have apparently enough time, OT will not be paid. Bringing back mail is not an option.

Yes, I know this is bullshit but I have a couple of questions.

1) Do you think it is reasonably fair to expect a reserve to match the speeds of a regular postie with his own round day in and day out.

2) Is it fair on a shared van delivery mixing people with different finish times? The differences to me normally mean the person I am paired with has an extra hour delivery time than me. Both of us finish the delivery at the same time.

1. No absolutely not. Are you being denied overtime on these grounds?

2. Are you saying you're being forced to work an hour overtime every day in order to let your buddy finish?

Overtime is completely optional. You can demand that you finish at your contracted finish time. This would mean they would have to either send someone out to collect you, or, as happens in our office, get the bus back and get your fare refunded.

It's the manager's choice whether bringing back mail is an option, but if there is more work than is possible in your hours then arrange only to take out what you know you can do.

Yes, if you suggest you may require overtime to complete they produce a sheet of paper in which the georoute computer results are pointed out to you. Basically the computer says you can do it. It's enough to make you go mad.

Once again it is something that georoute can not be programmed for, reserves doing deliveries they have little or no experience for. It's also difficult to know what to leave behind, basically you have no bloody clue.

We had our office Georouted about a year ago.

My walk came out about 1 hour 30 mins too big. The managers hadn't factored in the 40 mins each way travelling time, but still refused to admit it wasn't correct!

I cut off every day for about 2 months because they refused to pay overtime.

If they refuse you overtime, you just give them the option of leaving some behind or bringing some back.

It's also difficult to know what to leave behind, basically you have no bloody clue.

In that case, tell the manager you want to finish on time and that you cannot complete the delivery. It's up to them to sort it out.

If they try and make you take too much, get a witness (union rep would be good) and tell them what you can't do will be brought back.

unless i'm mistaken,when we had geo-route,all duties were planned/timed on foot,have you moved to CDV deliveries after your walks were plotted,if so the data he's using will be irrelevant.

Choose a busy day and insist that he accompanies you on your walk. He will probably refuse. You cannot be made to work beyond your contracted hours. Do the job correctly. Weigh Bags, do cycle check etc etc. Take all the mail out and tell him before you go that you believe that it is not possible to complete the walk in the time allowed. If he is not prepared to pay you overtime, or you do not want the overtime, then you bring the mail back to the depot and it is his responsibility to get it delivered. Do not get into any argument with him. If he has a go when you get back, which is unlikely because most of them have gone home by then, just tell him that you have completed your contract and if he wishes to discuss it further you will require overtime or he can wait until you start your next day contracted hours. You are paid to work your hours! just work those hours - There are laws in this country and within europe to protect you from slavery (un-paid work)

it is unfair to match your speeds with anyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it were fair to compare you to another, would they be more likley to match you with the offices or companys equivalent of Usain Bolt or Professor Stephen Hawking (with the chair)

point 2.
if this is their choice to mix attendace patterns, then it would be fair to conclude, that unless there is agreed proceedure in place, it is the drivers responsibility to return you to your office.
Obviously you don't think it's fair and to be honest from what you've posted nor do i.

If, as you've said you both finish at the same time then the driver, it appears has time to return you to your office then resume delivery.

Because their finish time is at three and mine is at two. We are both on the same shared van delivery until completion. I thought I made that quite obvious.
